Any vets out there that can explain
this to me? I have 2 brothers and 1 husband, all retired vets. My brothers are rabid repugs and my husband is totally not. My bros attribute their opinions to their military background; I cannot for the life of me understand this. The only thing I can figure is they're brainwashed: "my country/leader, right or wrong" and have lost the whole concept of democracy. This doesn't apply to hub or many other vets out there; any perspectives?

1. There are a number of possibilities.
When did they serve? What branch did they serve in? Were they gullible to begin with? Did they see combat? The bigger question to me is what is the difference between you and your bros?

2. Military mindset....
I am an Active Duty US Marine and have been in the Corps for 13 years and I know all about this mindset. I am also fiercely Liberal due to my upbringing. In the past, the opinion of the military is that Repubs are pro-military(pay raises, more equipment, etc.) and Democrats were anti-military(I have no clue where this comes from). It is engrained in our culture that Repubs believe in kicking ass and taking names and that Democrats are not. Little do these poor brainwashed souls know that these repubs love to sacrifice us lowly pawns to furthur their twisted goals. But I am happy to report that I am starting to see a change and there are MANY Marines that I know that will be voting against GWB!

3. A lot of agreement with above poster
How many of those vets were combat vets and saw combat up close and personal? How many have some problems from war? Are any chauvinistic? I have found many warmongering vets are still wanting to be 18 and seem to have an ego problem. IMO.

4. More...
I know I have been liberal for life and when I was Iraq last year, seeing all of the death and destruction, that just reinforced my views. War is not pretty and these evil bastards waging this war needs to know that.

5. I've wondered that myself.
Must be as you said, a successful brainwashing. A lot of African Americans in the Navy don't support Bush.
