Malloy of AAR sez: Kerry, stop using Big Words! ("precipitate")
I agree--kerry could have used "caused" instead.

1. I've been saying this for months and months!
I don't criticize Kerry very often, because it usually isn't helpful. This goes in the category of constructive criticism.

Note to Kerry - Either fire your speechwriters or make them change their ways. These big words are killing you among the bush-bots. Please!

2. Fine him $10,000.00 if he uses a word with more than 3 syllables.
Sorry but its true. He has to learn the language of the common man and fast!!!!!

3. oh yeah,
it would really help to have a Bush clone who can't pronounce a word longer than three letters.

19. I DO!!!
I get so pissed at the reverse bigotry of claiming that people shouldn't use "big words" because all these supposedly "real people" don't understand them.

What's a "big word?" Is "understanding" a big word? It's got a lot of letters, gee. (More than "precipitate" for that matter.)

Let Kerry use the vocabulary that comes naturally to him. Get off his back.

6. it WOULD help a lot if Kerry had a little Bush in him (tee hee....)
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 10:07 PM by dumpster_baby
Remember the blood transfusion in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN? "Sweet mystery of life, at last I've found you..."

See what I mean?

But I digress. OK, look. Most Americans are rednecks, OK. Even in northen states. So Kerry needs to appeal to them, too.

4. bah ha haha....lets all be stupid
a new trend bush gave us cause we can have no higher expectation of our fellow man. simply sad. i tell the school, lower the expectations enough on the students, and that is exactly what you will get. lets do this to a whole nation of adults

10. You don't have to us a 50 cent word when a .05 cent one will work.
Doesn't "precipitate" and "cause" mean the same thing? Why use a big word when you don't have to?

11. Hey, the 'masses' have to vote....it's called 'appealing...
to the masses.' I suppose you have to dumb it down some, its sad, but its probably the reality Kerry's facing.

14. It just means Kerry should speak more like Harry Truman
Truman spoke plainly, simply, directly, intelligently. He didn't require SAT words like Kerry and he didn't sound stupid like Bush.

8. A good friend of mine...
.. has a theory. Its a simple one. He says that we've had every kind of president before, except a stupid president. His theory is that since half of all Americans are in fact stupid, they recognize Bush* as one of them and that is why they support him :)

There has always been a strong anti-intellectual streak in American culture. I agree, Kerry should lose the big words. The average American has no freaking idea what the word precipitate means.

9. Its just simple math
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 10:10 PM by nu_duer
The more common the speech, the greater the number of people who can "hear" it, and be reached.

15. I visited the 6th Street Museum in Dallas where JFK...
was shot. They had his speeches running non-stop. It was wonderful to hear his "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". JFK was a true statesman. Bush would have reworded the statement to read "the Rich have given more than their share, the needy must now do their share", in service cuts and fighting the rich man's war.

16. It's a hell of a time we live in when
precipitate is considered a word that's too fancy for most of the people who bother to vote to comprehend...I mean get. :dunce:

Wow. Either you missed my point entirely (thereby making my original point) or you just get off on smarmy, sarcastic comments. Your day job must be a radio talk host, right?

Stick to bashing Bush. Leave the gratuitous swipes at our candidate to the opposition.

Meaning of GRATUITOUS

Pronunciation: gru'tooitus

Definition: without cause; "a gratuitous insult"
unnecessary and unwarranted; "a strikers' tent camp...was burned with needless loss of life"
costing nothing; "complimentary tickets"

21. I caught hell for using "etagere" instead of "shelves" once.
Holy hell. "Why are you always trying to use fancy words." I explained that I don't "try" to use anything, it's just my vocabulary. "Then where did you learn a word like etagere?"....Honestly watching "The Price is Right", big academic pursuit. Sheesh.
