Kevin Phillips on the Bush family dynasty
Kevin Phillips, author of the book, "American Dynasty (Aristocracy, Fortune, and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush)" spoke on April 24, 2004 at the City Club of San Diego, which was rebroadcast tonight on UCSD's cable channel. (UCSD stands for University of California, San Diego.)

He discussed the history of the Bush family, from the turn of the century, their connection to Standard Oil, the intelligence community, the military-intelligence complex, the CIA in particular, and its involvement since before WWII in Russian and Saudi oil interests, the creation of the CIA, Iran, GHW Bush's involvement with the CIA, the Shah of Iran, the Saudi Royal Family, the buildup of Iraq's armaments in the 1980's, the Iran-Contra scandal, the "October surprise" (his connection to the group which convinced the Iranian hostage takers not to release the hostages until Reagan had won the election over Carter, and been sworn in as President), his and his dim-son's involvement in the Carlisle Group along with numerous Saudi Royal Family members and the Bin Laden family, his and his dim-son's obsession with Iraq and disinterest in pursuing Bin Laden, etc., etc.

Some of this more recent material appears in very condensed form in Michael Moore's Farenheit 911.

Searching the 'net, I found some good links. I'm going out to buy the book tomorrow, as it goes into great deal about the Bush family for the past century. The links are:

I urge everyone on DU to at least read the above links, and if possible, buy the book and read it in its entirety. You want to know our common enemy, Dubya's about? You have to know where he came from, and this book spells it out in great detail.

1. Phillips is...
a terrific historian and analyst, and a principled conservative. He has been a commentator for NPR in the past, and has written a number of thoughtful books about what is going on. I have often found myself disagreeing with him, but really appreciative of hius clarity, thoughtfulness and breadth of understanding. he has always represented to me the possibility of retunring to civil discourse and the exchange of ideas.

i reccomend his book on the evolution of the waelthy class in america.

2. Thanks for the additional info about his other writing...
Undoubtedly many on DU have known a lot about Phillips for some time now. Watching that program was my first introduction to him. I found him personally very articulate. I agree he represents the possibility of returning to civil discourse, with his conservative background (and connection to Nixon).

What I like most is that as a conservative, he sees straight through the Bush family deceptions and history and really has it in for them, with the goods to prove his case.

4. I have read his book
on the Bush Dynasty. It is a great book. He definitely has got the bushes number.

If you don't know already he has been appearing on Now with Bill Moyer's.

I didn't like him much until I found out how much he dislikes the bushes, and how they have taken over the GOP.

The book really explains a lot of details how the bushes came to power and at what lengths they will go to keep it.

7. I've read it too
Phillips is no Liberal but a pragmatist instead. One cannot write him off as a wild eyed radical.

6. Be sure to catch him on NOW each week
And if anyone mentions the Kitty Kelley book about Bush family (ESPECIALLY if they worry about accuracy) tell them that, while Kelley is an entertaining read, Kevin's book has a more historically evidenced book. Heh. It is even more devastatingly accurate about the overriding eugenics/fascist/war profiteering history of that clan.
BAM.

9. Kevin Philips "American Dynasty"
made me aware of the fact that the Bush family is certainly cause for concern. I was on a nearly 8 week waiting list at my local library to get this work... also, I have heard Mr Philips described as a former republican strategist... he just has no use for the Bush clan..
