Burkett now maintains that the source of the papers was Lucy Ramirez, who he says phoned him from Houston in March to offer the documents. USA TODAY has been unable to locate Ramirez.

His Hardball appearance... led to a telephone call in March from Ramirez and her offer to provide documents damaging to President Bush.
He said Ramirez claimed to possess Killian's “correspondence file,” which would prove Burkett's allegations that Bush had problems as a Guard fighter pilot.

Burkett said he arranged to get the documents during a trip to Houston for a livestock show in March. But instead of being met at the show by Ramirez, he was approached by a man who asked for Burkett, handed him an envelope and quickly left, Burkett recounted.

“I didn't even ask any questions,” Burkett said. “Should I have? Yes. Maybe I was duped. I never really even considered that.”

So, maybe this is how it works: Rove finds someone to set up a person of color (who most people will perceive as a Democrat) to hand off the information. 5. The only point of this story I still find interesting is why did the WH

release them to news organizations if they knew they were not true. So either they are true and the WH knew it. Or they were trying to perpetuate the story. CSPAN showed an interview with Scot McClellan yesterday. His excuse was they released them because they didn't have time to authenticate them, but that doesn't make sense. They didn't realease them with comment about not being able to verify them, and didn't deny the facts in them. It is obvious the WH was behind them. Fortunately the Kerry camp didn't fall for it. Obviously knows Rove better than CBS does.

This sounds very much like Burkett faked the memos and then trashed the originals to make the forgeries harder to spot.

Occam's razor--the simplest answer is usually correct. The simplest answer is that Burkett faked them himself. He's already LIED about one source. He still hasn't produced phone records to Lucy Ricardo, oh, I mean, Lucy Rodriguez.

I want to believe that it's Repuke dirty tricks, but what I'm hearing sounds like a bunch of crap from Burkett.
