Official Reminder Thread -- Hispanic Last Names
The following last names are *extremely* common to hispanics, tejanos, and mexican americans:

http://genealogy.about.com/cs/surname/a/spanish_names.htm

Ramirez is the #10 most commong last name of Spanish origin, and in the top 100 of all names in the U.S., ahead of "Kelly" for example.

http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/dist.all.last

Of course in Texas that would be much, much higher.

The point? You're pissin' into the wind if you think anything involving google searches and public records proves jack shit about who provided those documents -- up to and until the point at which there's actually another identifying piece of info to cross reference, like a birthday, address, etc... that can be verified as pertaining to the actual person in question.

Just sayin'

1. Thanks for your concern
I think we can rule out the Ramirezes who don't live in Texas, who's first name isn't Lucy, who are under 18, who have Democratic affiliations, etc. From there, we can focus on Lucy Ramirezes who live in Houston or perhaps Midland and who have connections to GOP operatives. We'll get there. Stick around.

5. yougottabekidding
Rule out anyone who has dem affiliations from consideration as someone who passed on potentially damaging memos about the president?

That's real scientific...

7. no, genius....
I just read a whole mess of posts along the lines of "I just googled 'lucy ramirez' and look here's a family site that says she's married to a hernandez and there was once a hernandez who worked for Bush in florida and blah blah blah"

It's like saying noting that there are a lot of Kaplans and Cohens in Brooklyn -- it's meaningless.

By all means nail rove and his team of flying monkeys to the wall, but some of the stuff I've been reading is just mindless...

9. well yeah
There's more than one hypothesis here that would be good for Kerry, guys.

* One is that the docs are fake and were planted by repubs looking to embarrass.

* Another one equally beneficial to discover is that they are real and Ramirez is anti bush but if she's reached they could be verified as real.

And of course they could be faked by misguided dem supporters. I'd like to think those on our side are intellectually honest enough to at least admit that possibility -- though frankly I'm very strongly leaning towards the first explanation.

11. Welcome to DU
Investigators find people every day without the benefit of a last name. I am sure they can whittle down a long list of "Smiths" to a handful of likely suspects in short order. It is done every day across American and the world.
