Ohio voters hurt by * will vote for him anyway..from SF Gate
snip-

Canton, Ohio -- Since Kevin Patesel lost his job in June, he and his wife, Lisa, a waitress, have been struggling to raise three kids on her salary of less than $400 a week, joining thousands of other families barely able to make ends meet in this crumbling city.
snip-
"I know Bush has done things that aren't perfect," Patesel said. "But Bush said that he's accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. I believe that the way he tries to take the United States is more toward God." (This is really scary to me personally...what do you all think?)

1. "I can't trust Kerry"
"We trust in God, in Jesus, and we want the president to share our faith, " said Lisa Patesel, 43. "I don't think Kerry does, and I can't trust him."

Both Kerry and Bush are religious. Bush has said that as president, he turns "to the good Lord for strength, and I turn to the good Lord for guidance. " Kerry favors separation of church and state, but he comes from a Roman Catholic family and has identified himself as a "person of faith."

Lisa Patesel's sentiment is emblematic of voters' subjectivity in evaluating the values of candidates -- and the elusiveness of the concept of values.

So basically people want an American Taliban.

36. I don't believe for a second Smirk's "Born Again" Crap
It's another one of the MANY false images his Handlers have constructed "for him" to cynically tap into the Fundi Christian base where he was weak before. Smirk's well-documented life long pattern of vengefulness, pettiness, belligerence, ruthlessness and lack of honesty proves his “Man of the Bible” Shtick to be nothing less than a Charade.

Of course the Bible Thumpers, being “naturally” Gullible (you have to gullible to take the Bible "literally" word for word), just eat up Smirk's B/S.

Given all the evil things this Jerk has done in the last four years, if he has any connection to an unworldly power it would be most certainly the Dark Side.

70. it has a second appeal to Bush and his handlers:
...it makes him automatically forgiven for all of his indulgence in petty vices - cocaine use, DUIs, shirking of duty. It means he gets an automatic clean slate for everything he's ever done.

Unbelievable.

We'll add this sucker to the 96.3% of people we don't need in Ohio who voted Bush in 2000. If we get 3.7% of Bush's 2000 voters in the state, we win.

So sayeth the lord.

6. I keep saying, if people could vote to abolish Separation of Church
and State, it would be GONE! That's why it's imperative to vote for Kerry who will appoint Supreme Court Judges who are not so far right that Separation of Church and State will be gone. They'd also vote for Segregation again. 60% of Americans still think desegregation was a bad idea.

Why doesn't this idiot go over to Iraq? He could support his family and support Bush's policies. I say, send the Christians home to heaven, send them to the front lines of Iraq so they can go home to their God much sooner!

7. Good grief!
They like and agree with Kerry and realize that Bush* has been making mistakes but will vote for him anyway because he says he has accepted Jesus? YIKES!

The stuff about taking care of each other is interesting. How do they plan to do that as they make less and less money. If it is true that they can barely get by now how are they ever going to take care of anyone else? Do they mean just holding each other as they all starve or freeze to death while praying in the manner our president does? They simply are not thinking but that is so very typical these days. Yes, I agree with you. This is frightening.

9. Read this prayer posted on the internet
Father, I lift up to you our brother, President Bush, say amen!! I ask that You strengthen Him, that You protect Him and that You keep Your Hand upon Him. I ask that You give Him wisdom, that You give Him courage to do what is right, CODIFY Ten Commandments into law, RETURN prayer to public school, OUTLAW homo "marriage", OUTLAW all abortion for ANY reason and OUTLAW stem cell "research" that only serves to kill Your little ones. I ask that You draw Him deeper into You, that You pour out Your Holy Spirit upon Him, say amen! That You give Him a deeping hunger and thirst for Your Word. I ask that You illuminate His spiritual eyes by the power of Your Holy Spirit. I ask that You give Him grace. I ask that He would be a man worthy of the calling You have placed on His life as the One who will bring us to Your glory. I ask that You bless His marriage, that You make Him a servant as a husband and a father. . I ask that You fill Him with Your Holy Spirit, that You work in Him and through Him and by Him to accomplish Your will in the events of the Middle East You foretold, say amen! I ask that You pour out Your love in His heart, that you keep His eyes on +Jesus+. I ask if it be Your will, that You will allow Him to remain the President of this country for another 4 years. Keep Him from physical danger. Stifle the unpatriotic left who are bent on stopping Your plan. I ask that You use Him as a tool in Your Hand for this country and this world, I ask that You empower Him to speak Your name whenever he has the opportunity. Continue to use the US as a weapon in Your Hand for the protection of Israel. Grant Him the power to carry out His mission to liberate the world and bring us to You. I ask that You continue to make Him a man of prayer. I ask most of all, that You make Him a man who knows and loves You more and more each day. Thank You that You raised Him up for such a time as this. We are RAPTURE ready, come Lord Jesus! We are RAPTURE ready, come Lord Jesus! We are RAPTURE ready, come Lord Jesus! Say amen, say amen!!!!

11. what really amazes me about people like this . . .
is their willingness to support someone who SAYS he has "accepted Jesus Christ," regardless of whether or not that person's actions reflect Christ's teachings (which Bush's certainly do not) . . .

"Hey, I invaded a sovereign country, killed tens of thousands of people, poisoned the land with depleted uranium, and bombed the shit out of cities and shrines. But, hey . . . I accept JC, so you can vote for me!" . . .

and people buy it . . .

12. The people haven't a CLUE what Jesus was all about..
... they just get brainwashed by their egotistical pastors. I've found, through being around that stuff, that those type of churches are run by egotistical men.. who THRIVE on the adolation of their parish. The people, like that, who profess to believe that Bush is somehow God's chosen one (pardon me while I :puke:), have conventiently forgotten that Bush stands against EVERYTHING Jesus stood for!!! So.. basically all a candidate has to do is profess that he's accepted J.C. in their heart, and they can do anything? I mean... these people who are saying this stuff have a million reasons why Bush has screwed things up, but they buy into Rove's invention of Bush's religion. NO ONE swears the way Bush does, and is a truly devout born-again. I'd say Bush is stuck somewhere in the birth canal right now... or maybe it's just Rove's ass.

A perfect example of the phenomenon described in Amazon.com's review of Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas?"

The largely blue collar citizens of Kansas can be counted upon to be a "red" state in any election, voting solidly Republican and possessing a deep animosity toward the left. This, according to author Thomas Frank, is a pretty self-defeating phenomenon, given that the policies of the Republican Party benefit the wealthy and powerful at the great expense of the average worker. According to Frank, the conservative establishment has tricked Kansans, playing up the emotional touchstones of conservatism and perpetuating a sense of a vast liberal empire out to crush traditional values while barely ever discussing the Republicans' actual economic policies and what they mean to the working class. Thus the pro-life Kansas factory worker who listens to Rush Limbaugh will repeatedly vote for the party that is less likely to protect his safety, less likely to protect his job, and less likely to benefit him economically.

Bush is the worst candidate these constituencies could ever, ever want. Yet they vote without thinking, impulsively, based on fear, lies, and blind faith in religion and those who appear to embrace it.

This article is a pretty stunning example of this effect at work in Ohio.

It could just as easily be entitled "What's the Matter with Ohio?"

The book is an amazing analysis of why working-class Red Staters keep sending conservatives to Congress and the White House that constantly vote against their working-class economic interests.

I highly recommend this book.

43. Kerry stands for Canton's values
The people of Canton "want a good environment for their kids, they want strong neighborhoods, they want safe streets." Good. Which candidate genuinely supports those things?

Bush at one time presented himself as the education president, but he failed to fully fund the No Child Left Behind initiative. Kerry stands for fully funding education at the federal level, including afterschool programs. He also stands for increased tax credits for college education and for childcare. If you want a president who will genuinely stand up for your children's learning environment, vote Kerry/Edwdards.

http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/education

People want stronger communities and safe streets. Naturally. But which candidate really stands with the people of Canton? Kerry wants more cops on the street, more prosecutors to crack down on violent criminals, and sensible gun laws that our law enforcement officers say are necessary.

John Kerry is a gun owner and hunter, and both he and John Edwards support the Second Amendment right of law-abiding Americans to own guns. Like all of our rights, gun rights come with responsibilities, and John Kerry and John Edwards support mainstream measures to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists: enforcing the gun laws on the books, closing the gun show loophole, and standing with law enforcement officers to extend the assault weapons ban.

http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/communities

Bush also said he supported the assault weapons ban, but when it came to stand up for our law enforcement officers and people like the citizens of Canton who value safe streets and neigborhoods, Bush ignored his pledge. Don't forget Bush's broken promises, Canton. He says he stands for your values, but his record shows that he really doesn't. Kerry stands for your values, and he has a long career of public service that attests to his dedication and sincerity.

This election *is* about your values, Ohio. It's too important to let it be determined by specious arguments and last-minute appeals to your emotions. Look at the facts. Compare the records and the policy proposals of these two candidates. Clearly John Kerry is the candidate that stands for Ohio's values.

51. saw this on MSRNC today....
A whole segment with bible thumpers (now Im Christian, before anyone accuses me of anything) who are ALL voting for *, MAINLY because of abortion. But a damn close second was *'s born again Christian thing.

HOW a person who is that religious can support all this death and carnage in Iraq, brought about soley by the supreme asshat, is completely beyond my thinking. Something like these wingnuts who murder the abortion doctor to save the baby.

Hysterically religious people who allow THAT to influence every aspect of their lives, I find damn scary. Just my opinion.

...George W. Bush as a special dispensation, to guide America in this, her hour of greatest need, then it must be said that the Architect of the Universe does not, as the sports pages say, have a very deep bench.

55. Fundies need to see this chart on bartcop...
It's on today's page and after you scroll down a bit..it has the path that hurricanes, Charley, Frances, and Ivan took and I swear it says all the place that voted for bush in 2000..if this is accurate and I have no reason to think it's not.. then it's "uncanny" how the Dem strongholds were left out of the destruction!

58. I know several such Ohioans!
I know several people who have been out of work for 2 - 3 years and still think shrub is their man. I have talked to them and I still do not understand it.
It is usually one of 4 reasons:
Democrats are soft on the Military.
Right to Life/Christian right wing nuts
Democrats want to give away the farm to welfare recipients
or My daddy always said vote for the republicans

60. There is a Bush cult in this country...
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 09:07 PM by Andromeda
that has mushroomed and it's dangerous. It's taken over the minds of these poor ignorant souls. What else would they do in the name of God?

Maybe they would sacrifice one of their children, and they're essentially doing that, or lay down in front of a freight train to demonstrate their faith.

Why does Bush warrant that kind of loyalty? It's because he's a born-again fundie Christian -- and these people scare the hell out of me.

It's time to show Bush as the false prophet he really is.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

62. Folks like this are the minority!!!! They are very vocal, but they are
the minority! I'm not sure how they manage to get in the media so much, but most people in this country think they're crazy too.

Don't let them and their strong projection get you down. The majority will still win.

The bigger problem are the prople who have been convinced that shrub is the "John Wayne" figure. Way too many people are still idalistic about the wild west, and the man in the white hat always won. That's the image Rove has formed for Shrub. That's the thing we have to fight!

65. Why do you think he cuts education funding

There's a reason why bush wants more religious organizations operating private schools, and he's not hot to fund education.

Keep em dumb and loving Jesus!
