1. I hope so. We need this whole CBS/Memo story to die off now.
We need to go after * on Iraq and other policy matters. It's the only way to win!

2. The AWOL story is hurting Bush
it should not be dropped. It keeps them on the defensive "if you're explaining - you're losing". The Holy Grail is the question of why Bush did not take his physical and allowed himself to be suspended from flying. I have a good idea why and if this ever gets out he is cooked. As for the docs - this MAY turn out to bite the GOP on the ass.

5. I agree.
I think that they are terrified of this issue. They would do anything to change the subject. Well it won't work. I want to get to the bottom of all the questions about Bush's service and I also want to know where those documents came from! Notice how when they are on the ropes they want the subject changed? No way!

9. That puppy's done. Only RW mouthpieces are still harping on it.
Otherwise, it's a done-story...if and until another shoe drops. That is, it's done as far as the Kerry connection goes. For Rather and 60 Mins, maybe another story.

6. My take - AWOL = bad for Bush now - Kerry aggressive = future boost
I am cautiously optimistic that this will be close to the very end - which is usually good for the challenger.

12. a couple of passages that struck me

In Iraq, we have a mess on our hands. But we cannot throw up our hands. We cannot afford to see Iraq become a permanent source of terror that will endanger America’s security for years to come.

The President’s policy in Iraq precipitated the very problem he said he was trying to prevent. Secretary of State Powell admits that Iraq was not a magnet for international terrorists before the war. Now it is, and they are operating against our troops. Iraq is becoming a sanctuary for a new generation of terrorists who someday could hit the United States.

8. Kerry's NYU speech is blowing them away
...repuke strategy in New York, and it was an electoral strategy, was 911, Likudism, and Convention. It has completely failed. New Yorkers weren't born yesterday.

They resent the smell of obscurantism blowing up from Crawford. The fact that the NY Times is a corrupt rag hasn't helped the bushonian movement one bit in the northeast. The increased dependency of state and local government on increasing taxes to offset the militaristism and tax cutting binge in Washington has really caused voters to hurt in their pocketbooks.

The middle class in NY is living from paycheck to paycheck as they are taxed to death and they know exactly where the problem is. The bait and switch after 911 doesn't fool cynical New Yorkers much.
