MN Star Trubune Editorial: Truth to power/Change course in Iraq
http://www.startribune.com/stories/561/4993225.html

so the great national debate begins...at last.

September 22, 2004 ED0922

On Monday, John Kerry said it plain and said it loud: He would not have invaded Iraq. His reasoning was clear: It had no weapons of mass destruction; it had no links to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001; it posed no imminent threat to the United States. Yes, he said, he voted to give President Bush the power to go to war. But, Kerry said, instead of using that power as he promised he would, to increase international pressure on Saddam Hussein, Bush used it to hurry into a disastrous, go-it-almost-alone war that has isolated America in the world and made it less safe.

Bush addressed Iraq Monday as well. "Knowing what I know today, I would have made the same decision" about invading Iraq, Bush said. No qualms, no questions, no admissions of error. Bush went on to insist that everything is going swimmingly. Freedom's on the march. Democracy is taking shape. If America stays the course, everything will be all right.

Except Bush is living in a fantasy world, while Kerry deals in facts. The course America is on runs right over a cliff. The Bush administration's latest national security estimate for Iraq itself offers a bleak forecast, with the best case being a continuation of the current chaos there. Moderate Republicans like Sens. Richard Lugar, John McCain and Chuck Hagel said much the same thing in appearances on the Sunday talk shows.

1. I thought it was great that Letterman gave him a chance to say this. He is
truely getting more vocal.

4. 'bush needs criticism!'
If we could tell republican types that the intense anti-democratic bias of the news has 'enabled' Mr Bush (eeeeww) and as a result he's kinda in a mess; surely anyone can see that Mr bush (eeeewww!) needs to be criticised a bit in order to prevent hitting abutments etc....in fact, maybe the 'liberal media' has been encouraging the bush administration the whole time! They act rightwing, but now lookit the mess junior's in!
Somehow, the republicans blind loyalty to g bush has to be countered, and the blatant pro bush message in most media maybe the handle to grab onto(?) to try affect a change...
of course most repukes are so dense reverse psychology and machiavellian schemes maybe won't work on them...

3. Anyone else being reminded of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"?
Is this the real life ?
Is this just fantasy ?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality.
