Humor. Kerry needs to laugh at the Republicans for being so stupid to think that Iraq could work, to think that people would believe tax cuts for the rich would somehow benefit the middle class. Play the utter ridiculousness of what Bush is doing to the environment. The "do they think we're stupid" angle.

When he takes himself so seriously he not only gives Republican policy a gravitas it doesn't deserve, but he appears to lack confidence.
