3. No doubt. I knew he would get it after 9/11
I remember one of the networks interviewed him, and he was that lone voice saying 'I hope we can keep a level head after all of this'...I remember saying to myself he was going to suffer some backlash in some way after 9/11...this retarded shit just doesnt suprise me one bit...the absurdity was almost inevitable.

4. Salman Rushdie
I thought Stevens denied supporting the fatwa.

Other than that and the allegations about his charitable contributions, what do they have that puts him on a no fly list.

Oh, silly me, people don't have rights anymore, do they.

5. The criteria:
"We got information that led us to make a decision, based on the fact there was a confirmed individual on board."

Oh ok...as long as you could firm an individual was on board, I guess its ok to divert a flight because of a man who has devoted his life to peace. Idiots.

12. He's one of those subversives who likes peace
Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

19. Ya know, Cat Stevens did some nice songs back in the day,

but just because he sang "Peace Train" thirty years ago does not mean he is a peaceful guy today.

He made a huge change in his life, becoming a Muslim and an expatriate and more or less retiring from the modern world. He became another person, a person who was reported to have supported Ayatollah Khoumeini's fatwa against Salman Rushdie, and to have given money to radical groups.

It's stupid to think that every Muslim wants to kill us infidels, but even stupider to think that no Muslim wants to do us in.

It could be that the feds have done the correct thing here.

24. "...was reported to..."

Just like John Kerry "was reported to" have falsified his Vietnam record, have caused some of his wounds himself, etc., etc.?

When the former Cat Stevens converted to Islam in the late 70s, the British tabloid press had a field day. Granted, as Stevens/Islam himself has admitted in recent years, he went overboard in his demonstrations of zeal at that time (as he put it, "typical of a new convert"). Nonetheless, the tabloids went out of their way to portray him as a dangerous radical. As a prime instance, one reporter at the time of the Salman Rushdie affair asked him where in the Koran was there the call for execution of blasphemers. He gave a citation, qualifing "I think that's correct" (in reference to whether or not he was citing the right passage), then added that what might have been appropriate in an early Islamic city-state wasn't so in a pluralistic society like Great Britain in the 20th century, and so no Muslim should be trying to carry out the fatwa. Needless to say, the tabloid ignored virtually everything he said, and headlined the story with the claim that Stevens/Islam had said, in regards to whether Rushdie should be executed, "I think that's correct."

:eyes:

For what it's worth, Yusef Islam has spent the past twenty-plus years running a school for Muslim children in London, and working for the relief of victims of the Balkan conflict in Bosnia and Kosovo. Back then, the U.S. was nominally on the same side -- now, of course, with our dedication to finding terrorists under every bed, we have declared that we have found that -- gasp! -- al-Qaeda may well have been operating in Bosnia. So, I suppose that it can now "reported" that, in working to bring relief to the victims of Serb aggression and ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, Islam was "connected" to al-Qaeda...

Oh, also, in late 2001, Yusef Islam released a boxed anthology of his recordings as Cat Stevens. His share of the proceeds went to the victims of 9/11. Sounds just like something a terrorist would do.

25. One note from that website worth repeating...
Yep, it looks like Yusuf Islam was here in the U.S. barely four months ago, with visits to NYC, DC, and LA. Strange...I didn't notice any terrorist attacks take place here during his visit...

16th May 2004

Yusuf Islam travels State-side today ahead of the official opening of Small Kindness' U.S. office, marking a new chapter in the charity's relief operations around the world. A redesigned web site has also been launched, describing previous and current activities and ways in which donors can lend their support. Whilst in the U.S., Yusuf Islam will personally attend special previews of the forthcoming 'Majikat: Earth Tour' DVD. Hosted by Friends of Small Kindness, the DVD will be showcased before an audience of some 200 invited guests in New York (17th) followed by a second showing in Los Angeles (22nd). Proceeds from the previews will benefit orphans, families and young students in many deprived countries.

As I said before, just the sort of behavior someone on the terror watch-list might be expected to participate in.

27. Where Do The Children Play?
Well I think it's fine, building jumbo planes.
Or taking a ride on a cosmic train.
Switch on summer from a slot machine.
yes, Get what you want to if you want, 'cause you can get anything.

I know we've come a long way,
We're changing day to day,
But tell me, where do the children play?

Well you roll on roads over fresh green grass.
For your lorry loads pumping petrol gas.
And you make them long, and you make them tough.
But they just go on and on, and it seems that you can't get off.

Oh, I know we've come a long way,
We're changing day to day,
But tell me, where do the children play?

Well you've cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air.
But, will you keep on building higher
'til there's no more room up there?
Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry?
Will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?

I know we've come a long way,
We're changing day to day,
But tell me, where do the children play?

Cat Stevens-
