Kerry plan helps middle class build jobs, Edwards says
<CLEVELAND — President Bush believes you help the economy and create jobs by putting more money in the pockets of rich people, while John Kerry believes you do that by strengthening and expanding the middle class.

That’s the fundamental difference between the two campaigns’ approach to economic growth, Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards said yesterday while laying out the Kerry-Edwards vision for improving the Ohio economy.

"We should not be just rewarding wealth. That’s what George Bush and Dick Cheney are about," Edwards said during a question-and-answer session after a speech to the City Club of Cleveland.

"I am all for people doing great in this country. Lord knows, I’ve done great," said Edwards, a millionaire trial lawyer. "But that opportunity cannot be limited to a few people at the top."

Edwards did not offer new proposals yesterday in what was billed as a major policy speech, but he outlined in detail the Kerry-Edwards plan to address job loss, poverty and other economic problems — compared with what he called the "do-nothing presidency" of Bush. >
