Dick Thornburgh heading up CBS Investigation!
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 11:09 AM by mbali
The other person named to the panel is Associated Press president chief executive Louis Boccardi.

Lisa Myers reporting on MSNBC that this shows that CBS is serious about being thorough - noted that it has appointed two respected persons to head up investigation, "one of them a Republican."

Excuse me A highly partisan political figure - who, among other things, worked for W's father - and a respected journalist whose political views are unknown represent balance, as long as one of them is a Republican?

4. HORSESHIT. Thornburgh is a FIXER. Protected Poppy Bush during IranContra
and BCCI as much as he could.

This tells me that it was Poppy Bush's operatives who snagged Killian's files after he died and while Bush was Vice President. Thornburgh is tapped once again to protect all things Bush related.

5. Why is it that Republicans always head investigations?
Have you noticed that? Whether the subject of the investigation is D or R or neither, the head of the investigating committee is always a repub (Since Cox and Watergate anyway):

Iran Contra, Walsh (R)
Whitewater, Starr (R) and the guy before Starr? also an R?
9/11, Keene (R)

Please add to the list with your faves, including exceptions (which I can't think of).

8. I object!!! WHO at CBS made the appointment??
The article only mentions CBS news, not a person at CBS. This is total bullshit and should not go unchallenged. My puny emails won't make any difference, but I'll send some anyway. Is there anyone of stature brave enough to speak out against this obvious hoax of an investigation? Probably not.

Egad.....Howie Kurtz on CNN now talking about how hard it would be for anyone to find fault with the selection of Dick Thornburg, etc. Howie, you don't have to look far at all.

9. That's what people said when Repubs fired Fiske and hired Starr
to do Whitewater investigation . . .

Yes, {Starr} is a straight shooter. He's a former solicitor general in a Republican administration, so he's not- he can't be really accused, I don't think, of favoring President Clinton, but he's such a straight shooter, he's a former judge, that I don't think anybody could accuse him of- of trying to railroad President Clinton either. In the legal community he has a sterling reputation and a reputation for impartiality. He has the confidence of all comers, I think.

Paul Rothstein, CNN, August 5, 1994

{W}ith Ken Starr's credentials, Republican credentials and conservative credentials, if he absolves them, this really- that really will be a victory for the White House.

Paul Gigot, CNN's Late Edition, August 7, 2004

10. This just sucks. The addition of Thornburg makes it easier
for the mediawhores to spin the CBS 'internal' investigation into a 'criminal' investigation. Once again, the librul media has bent over ass backwards to show that they are not partisan in any way, shape or form. Once again, it will gain them nothing. Only a big, fat ass bite by yet another right wing snake in the grass. This one's from swing state Pennsylvania. How convenient.

11. Is this a bad thing?....I believe an investigation is in order
Not by a political party or outsider but it would be nice to find out where the memos originated and if indeed they are genuine or if someone just made them up. The more focus on Bush* during his NG service can only be helpful I believe. I'm curious about the Memos myself.
