There goes any chance for Bush in MI.

American Muslim voters are overwhelmingly supporting Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry over Republican George W. Bush, according to a new American Muslim Poll conducted by Zogby International for Georgetown University’s Muslims in the American Public Square (Project MAPS). By a margin of 76% to 7%, Muslims back the Kerry/Edwards ticket over the incumbent Bush/Cheney ticket. This is a stark reversal of fortunes from the 2000 election for Mr. Bush. The poll consisted of a telephone survey of 1,700 Muslims, and an over sample of 146 face-to-face interviews of African-American Muslims. The margin of error is +/-2.3 percentage points.

“This contrasts sharply with the 2000 election, when

10. They are pulling out because they are cowards
There are no "secure bunkers" in Michigan (at least that I'm aware of) and no cornfields to hide under.

Let me be completely blunt and to the point, while Manhattan burned... while innocent Americans took nose dives to their death... while first responder emergency service men and women were crushed... the people within our current administration HID and LIED. They should not be afforded the respect given to primordial ooze.

Further, if the policy of the current administration somehow managed to warp itself to accuse me, based only on my personal religious preference, of being a terrorist, I just might have the fight off the urge to make their absurdity a reality. Good and bad people are found throughout all religions and political affiliations.

2. Are there any states besides Michigan where this could matter?
I know there are significant Muslim populations in New York but that is Kerry country anyway. How about Ohio and Florida? Anyone know?

4. True but let's remember Muslim doesn't equal Arab
Yes, MI has the largest Arab pop outside the ME-- but not all are Muslim. It will still have an effect there, thoughs, as Arabs are no longer 100% behind *

Muslims are throughout the US---

Go to CAIR-- they may have the statistics--

9. The arab population in metro Detroit is religiously diverse....
But the muslims tend to live in Dearborn, the Chaldeans in northwest Detroit/Oakland County and the Eastern Orthodox live all over.

Chaldeans will likely vote for Bush. They are christians and from Iraq.

Eastern Orthodox arabs are from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey. They will not likely form one voting block. There is a lot of diversity in that grouping-many work as doctors, social workers, businessmen, etc.

Muslims did vote for Bush in 2000. Dearborn has a GOP Mayor, an american of italian descent. An arab ran against him, and the arab vote went overwhelmingly in the Guido's (I think that's his name) favor. Spencer Abraham campaigned for Bush here, as he was still a Senator at that time. He doesn't have the same sway anymore with arab voters, now that he's energy secretary. On top of that, Ann Coulter got her start working for him, all an arab american has to do is read one of her columns to know that she is not their friend, but is a friend of the GOP.

I can say for the black gay repukes who I just saw on another thread.. that they are endorsing bush because..

" "We are determined to use whatever resources we have to get the word out, especially to Black voters of why a vote for Bush is a vote for economic, social and political self- upliftment."

And more Jewish Americans are supporting Kerry..another Bright part of our society!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a bridge to go sell.

It is time we put them back in the stone-age. Damn the women and children, this has to stop.

We're going to find out, sooner or later,
If Abdul will pray, to a glowing crater.

I think OVERWHELMING destruction and horror will have to be used against these sons of satan, blood thirsty death cultists.

Fuckin' psychopaths.

15. Ugh.
they are nuts.

that's the one aspect i hate about this whole post 9/11 world.

i mean during the clinton years, we made these huge inroads in race relations, and now with this attack, the divide is back, this time the ignorance is focused on religion.

it's tough not to hate a bunch of fundies, no matter what god they pray to.

9/11 just made it a little more acceptable for people to let it out.

8. damn straight
(I'm not muslim, but many freepers think I "look" like one:eyes: )

People are sick of the race-baiting from the so-called inclusive Repukes. The finance mgr of the dealer where I bought my car was from Inda, former Indian AF pilot, been in the us 15 years. Said he was "born Republican,":eyes: but the horrible fear-mongering by BushCoInc's freeper shock troops compeletely changed his mind on continuing to support the Republican Party.

19. Good Chapter in Unger's "House of Bush, House of Saud"
The Arabian Candidate:

http://www.salon.com/books/feature/2004/03/15/unger_3/index.html

How George W. Bush's close ties to Islamic lobbying groups -- and to an accused supporter of Palestinian terrorism -- may have brought him his razor-thin margin of victory in Florida.

<snip>

"Astonishingly enough, the fact that dangerous militant Islamists like Al-Arian were campaigning for Bush went almost entirely unnoticed. Noting the absence of criticism from Democrats, Bush speechwriter David Frum later wrote, "There is one way that we Republicans are very lucky -- we face political opponents too crippled by political correctness to make an issue of these kinds of security lapses.""

<snip>

"Salem made clear to Bush that two issues that would animate Muslim-American voters were the elimination of racial profiling at airports to weed out terrorists and the use of "secret evidence" against Muslims in counterterrorism investigations."
