Look Out AWOL - Rather is now the TRUTH Messanger
His appearance on Larry King tomorrow night could mean that Rather will be coming out fighting. Get to the bottom of it and expose the real fraud - The Grandmaster Chimp

2. This game is over...
It doesnt matter what is said now or what evidence comes out. CBS, Rather and that idiot Burkett have guaranteed speculation and skepticisim on anything from them here on out. They need to move on to other issues and let this die.

4. Agreed
CBS needs to move out of the way and stop being the focus of attention. They have lost all hope of be relevant in this election.

7. Well said
Network Anchor = Big Ego. This story's over. CBS got snookered and Rather should go quietly back to journalism school and take.

FACTCHECKING 101! Sheesh..

3. Now we're talkin'! Rather didn't write the memos - and they are true!!!!!!
"I just want the truth" should be the mantra now. Some freeper cracked a joke about a work memo "you mean like the CBS memo's" she said. I just continued talking as if they were non-existent - because CBS and the memo's are not the story any more. What they said is all we need to concentrate on now. It is almost a good thing that their voracity has been questioned officially as we now need to move on to their substance as THAT has never been questioned.

10. Truth doesnt matter at this point...
Because the memos were fake, any information in them is going to be automatically discredited whether there is supporting evidence or not. Other journalists will learn from Rathers mistake and not touch the chance of "truth" with a 10 ft. pole with regard to these memos.

While Burkett is to blame for the whole thing, Rather and CBS had an obligation to get the facts *before* getting on air. Its a shame that some Freeper geek did the homework that Rather should have done.

13. You are so completely wrong. The story will stick to Bush.
The truth is there and everyone knows it. If you don't like it then don't watch it - I will follow this and enjoy because it is ALL GAIN and NO possibility for loss. I believe your view is just plain wrong.

15. I respect your right to disagree with me.
I dont believe Im wrong, though. Having to eat crow is going to hurt any future discoveries of memos, documents etc. Speculation and suspicion will be endless no matter what the source. Even if there is no reason for suspicion, the matter will be raised by the Right wing. Thats all thats needed given whats already happened with Rather and Burkett.

17. not if the docs come from this friday's release...

from all the docs that HAVE to be released by this Friday concerning ALL of *'s TANG records via an order from a Judge in the AP FOIA suit.

How can ANY RW nutjob question those? Or anyone question those at all?

14. Why are you praising Freepers? All 'Buckhead' did was sic the right-wing
noise machine on Dan Rather. What 'Buckhead' had to say about typography has been proven false. Killian's secretary, Mrs Knox, REMEMBERED she had an IBM Selectric with the "th" character on the typing ball.

NO one has provided any credible evidence that the documents Rather presented were "fogeries". The media--and many DU posters--simply are repeating Freeper talking points.

16. Im by no means praising Freepers...
Im saying that "Buckhead" opened the door for speculation.

Burkett himself admitted deceiving CBS.

Bill Burkett "has acknowledged that he provided the now-disputed documents" and "admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents' origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual source."

Burkett sabotaged us by playing around with "fake" documents rather than getting a source that was willing to go on record.

I hope Burkett burns in Hell.

9. Right--Rather now CANNOT let go of the 'President's' desertion.
'Buckhead' picked the wrong person to try to steamroll with weak and ignorant lies about typography. An uproar like 'Rathergate' would lead to the firing of a mid-level newsperson. But Rather is no ordinary news worker. He's not going to just lie down when he knows he has on his side provable truths that 99 percent of America does not know.

Rather will interview Burkett and have him accuse Dan Bartlett--before an expanded audience of tens of millions--of sanitizing Bushes hardcopy Guard records in 1997.

Rather will point out that Bush refuses to provide full access to microfilmed TANG records Bartlett could not destroy in 1997. When the WH continues to stonewall, the nation will learn that for seven years and counting the Bush crowd have been covering up evidence that should have been able to put rumors of desertion to rest.

Rather may even put on the air document experts who will question whether TANG records the WH HAS released have been doctored. Only the microfilmed .TANG records would be capable of disproving such charges.

get through it.

21. does anybody else find it odd
that Rather took such pains to emphasize the point that CBS came to Burkett, rather than Burkett coming to CBS with the documents? I mean, I can see him mentioning it in the course of running down the sequence of events, but Rather seemed to want to emphasize it. Why was that, do you think? Or didn't you think he did particularly emphasize it?

throwing him to the lions. Rather interviewed him last year, and is familiar with his fellow Texan.

22. Rather deserved this slapdown for blubbering over Bush as his
Commander in Chief, tearing up and saying (on letterman?) that he for one was willing to follow Bush to hell and back ( before the Iraq attack.)

I hope he liked getting his wish!

Shame on him! Didn't he check his facts even then??

He'd BETTER do a professional job now. He's the only one capable of making a difference in the media at this point. No more waffling, Dan!
Go get 'em!
