Somebody NEW has written this speech! It isn't a change in his statements or ideas from before, but it sure was put together BETTER!

Was this a product of Begala and Carvelle???

7. The hell he's not
You get him fired up enough, and he's exceptional.

Remember 1971? A fired-up Kerry can be quite eloquent. Perfectly capable of being direct when angered. And he's quite angry.

That said, who knows. Perhaps he got alot of good feedback from his new peeps, telling him how to tighten things up.

13. I never said he couldn't write a speech, I said he was not a speechwriter.
AND HE IS NOT.

14. Um, yeah
He's also not a fry cook. Your point?

My point is that, although I'm sure he uses speechwriters, he doesn't necessarily NEED to, and has indeed written his own on occasion. So we may have Kerry himself to thank for this new splendiferous speech.

16. I wasn't putting Kerry down, I'm saying there is obviously a big change!
The speech today is dramatically different from former ones. Sure, it's possible that Kerry wrote his own speech, but my instincts tell me that someone either helped him with it, told him to take the gloves off, or gave him some new ideas. Don't you find it a bit of a coincidence that Begala and Carvell joined the campaign advisors last week, and suddenly there's this major change in approach?

I'm not complaining at all, just looking for who to thank.

5. speech
Today's speech was more forceful, but Kerry must deflect the pat response from Bush that he will get on anything he says...either that it's a new position (Cheney's already saying it's Kerry's ninth on Iraq) or an "old recycled" attack. He needs to use his own numbers...something "I expect the usual distortion from Bush/Cheney to what I say...or Cheney's response is the 109th distortion on what I say..." Kerry continually point out the "distortation contortation" that is the Bush/Cheney response. He has to do it any speech he gives and so must every surrogate. And he must tell the public what they know----WE LIVE IN A COMPLEX WORLD. Bush paints a simple view at the complex issues...it's another distortion, not reality. Like calling Kerry pessimistic when he is really realistic. Kerry needs a Language Advisor...ripping apart what and how the Bush people say and how language placates and persuades the uninformed public that won't take time to study what's going on.

9. Didn't you hear? Kerry moved Shrum aside and put in Clinton's team!
They started on Wednesday.

NOT BAD FOR 5 DAYS WORK, EH? Mike McCurry is the new press secretary and there were several others. Bush had better get himself double-lined undies.

11. Thank the people on DU who criticize Kerry
Kerry listened and made positive changes despite the foaming at the mouth optimists who can't tolerate dissent.

18. There has been a change in strategy
This has been coming down the pike for a couple of weeks. With the input of the Clinton folks and yes, Clark, based on a Newsweek article, Kerry decided to go on the offense on Iraq.

It was his own decision and I'm sure it was written, as most of this campaign stuff is, with a lot of consulation with his advisors. But I believe this is Kerry's own viewpoint, it just hasn't been as pointed, detailed and assertive in his speeches before, because of previous campaign strategy.

I'm very happy with the change in direction. The speech was excellent! :)

Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 04:37 PM by Lisa0825
This is a woman who is very headstrong and strongly anti-abortion, and she said that after this speech, she is considering voting for Kerry! I haven't seen it yet, but I plan to watch it tonight!!!

(edited cuz I accidentally used RW terminology.... pro-life vs anti-abortion. I correct my friends on it, so I should correct myself too!LOL)
