Virginia DU'ers - refute SBL Hoffman's column in TimesDispatch
Pisses me off after this guy has been discredited again and again - Richmond Times-Dispatch give him a guest column yesterday - and media has nerve to bitch at Dan Rather.

The Grand Deception:
'Kerry, War Hero,' Is a Myth

ROY F. HOFFMANN
GUEST COLUMNIST Sep 19, 2004

The widely repeated myth of "John Kerry, the Vietnam Navy Hero" is one of the most dishonorable and dangerous deceptions ever perpetrated upon the American public.

John Kerry is not a hero. He built this facade with unabashed personal promotion, aided and abetted by a supportive liberal media ready and willing to repeat in print his gross exaggerations, distortions of fact, and outright lies about his abbreviated four-month, 12-day tour of duty in Vietnam.

Until the Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth spoke up in press conferences, television ads, and with the now best-selling book, Unfit for Command, no one - not even the conservative media - seriously or effectively challenged the veracity of John Kerry's self-aggrandizement. Only now is his war-hero facade beginning to peel away.

Kerry arrived in Vietnam on November 17, 1968, with a strong anti-war bias and a self-serving determination to build a foundation for a future political career. Even a most casual review of his biography, Tour of Duty by Douglas Brinkley, will reveal that Kerry entered the Naval Reserve as a "vain intellectual" with contempt for military authority.

1. What a dick!
"Yeah, Kerry went to Vietnam, but he did it with an anti war bias so none of that counts! He didn't LOVE the war enough! Now, Bush, he so loved the war that set it free, and left it go on without him, like the Sting song says!"

What a douchebag to repeat all the allegations as if they haven't been refuted.

But I always said that a lie never dies with the hate crowd. They still believe Whitewather had a Clinton crime, believe Clinton killed Foster, believe tax cuts cause surpluses--every lie is treasured no matter what.

2. ahh yes The Times-Disgrace...
The one thing I DON'T miss about Richmond.

I'll send the letter to the editor that I've sent to the Daily Press down here in Hampton Roads. I'll also let my family know (all DUers, too)

3. The most casual review of Kerry's biography reveals that
he went, he served, SAW COMBAT, and he served with distinction.
By comparison, we know that Bush dodged the draft thru the Guard and then didn't even show up as required.
Send that letter.

4. All of my family lives in Richmond!
Fortunately, my brother, sister-in-law, mother and aunt will vote for the first time in years for Kerry/Edwards.

5. I posted a request for help on this yesterday in the media
section - it made my blood boil!

I'm working on an LTTE along the lines of "irresponsible journalism" to give space to allegations that have been proven false. Especially since the official Navy inquiry ruled on friday that all proper procedures were followed for ALL of Kerry's medals.

I'm getting mad all over again just thinking about it!

Maybe if we both write letters, one of us will get published...
