BUSH-CHENEY CAMPAIGN SAYS REPUBLICAN SENATORS DICK LUGAR AND SENATOR HAGEL "DON'T UNDERSTAND" SITUATION IN IRAQ

BUSH-CHENEY CAMPAIGN TODAY: Danielle Pletka, Bush Cheney campaign advisor, on CNN Live Today, speaking about the trouble in Iraq: "I respect Senator Lugar and Senator Hagel's right to speak out on these issues but with all that respect I think they don't understand the gravity of the difficulties in making the right decision every single day."

PRESIDENT BUSH A YEAR AGO: "I'm particularly pleased that the Chairman (Dick Lugar) is with us. A fine American, a great friend, a person whose counsel and advice I take seriously, Senator Dick Lugar." (President Bush, remarks, 9/5/03)

Note: U.S. Senator Dick Lugar (R-Indiana) is the Chairman of the
Senate Foreign Relations Committee. U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel(R-Nebraska) is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a Vietnam War veteran.

2. Jaysus, at least Hagel has some combat experience
and lived through Vietnam - unlike all the chickenhawks in this administration ....

3. Let's hope Bush & Co. don't set about destroying Lugar and Hagel,
as they have done McCain, Cleland, Kerry and so many others. There's a great risk defying this administration, especially using the truth. Not big fans of any R, but let's wish Lugar and Hagel well. I'm thinking there's a "flip-flop" in their future, as they realize what's at stake in their lives and careers.

BUSH MUST GO!!

7. It's clear that Bush is incapable of making an intelligent decision
let alone a "right" one. Only a moron believes a "president"'s job is to make "the right decision every day." Only a moron, better said, says that's what a "president"'s job is.

8. Lugar and Hagel are good guys
...even though they've been forced, out of party loyalty, to carry water for the corrupt Bush administration. I only wish the Republican party were led by people like Lugar, Hagel, McCain. Conservatives I can respect; it's the criminals running the Republican party and destroying the nation who really piss me off.

and beyond without special privilege. He's among the best Republicans who truly seems to operate on principle and usually the principles are reasonable (whether we agree with his positions on all issues or not).

As for *...well, whom do you think is more capable of understanding difficult or complex issues?

10. WH must understand, it's a big deal when "honorable"
Pubs like Hagel and Lugar speak out against it.

Cool.

14. We really need to hammer this
Lugar and Hagel have said serious and devasting things. They are Republicans. And they understand the situation in Iraq better than the President does.

15. Lugar is my Senator
(although I have certainly NEVER voted for him) and I am writing him over his stand on this issue.

I also would love to ask him how he can support * when he is smart enough to realize the harm * and his cohorts are doing to the World situation (including, most immportantly Iraq).

Lugar is an old fashioned Republican Moderate who evidently is not drinking his share of the Kool-Aid. He is in a very safe seat and I would greatly appreciate his continued speaking out on the Iraq issue. It must be far worse than we can even imagine if he is not toeing the party line.
