Arizona pastor's sermons call for execution of gays, Barney Frank and the President
Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Arizona is a bible-quoting hellfire and damnation sort of guy. He calls for the execution of gays in numerous sermons that you can listen to here.

"The same God who instituted the death penalty for murders is the same god who instituted the death penalty for rapists and for homosexuals, sodomites and queers"

Jeremy at Good As You has some choice ones so you don't have to give that hateful cuss any hits.

Anderson, while he's memorized The Good Book, he is woefully underinformed about a few legal matters -- he apparently wants Barney Frank to sue his pious *ss off.

"The sodomites are recruiters and you know who they are after? Your children. They are being recruited by the sodomites. They are being molested by the sodomites. They recruit through rape, they recruit through molestation, they recruit through violation"

"Our country is run by faggots. You know who was the man who was the architect of the bailout? His name is Barney Frank, he is a pedophile..."

"That's who just sold our country into fascism. That's who just sold our corporations to the government. That's who sold out our country, a faggot!"

Among other sin-filled people Anderson calls to be executed is the POTUS, for his stand on reproductive freedom.

"God Hates Barack Obama, I hate Barack Obama. I hate Him. God wants me to Hate Barack Obama." "Someone who commits murder should get the death penalty."

Do you think he would be investigated by the Secret Service during Bush's terms in office? Did he think Bush deserved the death penalty for executing all those Iraqi citizens in his unnecessary military action? Just asking.

22. "Pastor" Anderson needs to revisit the New Testament
I John 3:15 is a verse he might find of interest: "Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him." John goes on to say in verses 16 and 17 "...We ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?" (New International Version)

I seem to recall Jesus had quite a bit to say about love as well, but guess for the good "pastor" and other so-called "Christians", it's so much more fulfilling to rail against gays and a Black president.

I stepped away from the evangelical/fundamental/Bible-thumping churches I'd been affiliated with for most of my life a few years back, just could not take any more of the anti-gay pro-Bush righteous-war rhetoric. Now I'm pretty much okay with there not even being a God. Just could not figure out why an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being would not step in and do something proactive to set his "followers" straight. No longer waiting for that to happen, since I now realize it can't, but doesn't stop me from being thoroughly disgusted with "pastor" Anderson and his ilk. They don't have the ability to be ashamed of what they're doing, and much as I wish they'd be called into account on judgment day, I know they won't. Just have to hope their inflammatory rhetoric does not result in some horrible and heartbreaking outcome.

30. Seems he doesn't know the Old Testament all that well either.
For all of his talk about "the kings of Israel killing Sodomites", he conveniently leaves out the fact that Israel's most famous king, David (the guy they named that star after) had a relationship with Jonathan, the son of the previous king Saul.

1 Samuel 18

1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

Kinda sounds like a "gay marriage" to me.......

23. This person seems to be reading from a different bible than I do..
"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble."

1 Peter 3:8

"These things I command you, that ye love one another."

John 15:17

"Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law."

Romans 13:8

Sometimes I wonder if some of these so-called pastors have ever seen the word "Love" in the scriptures.

54. All that loving bible stuff
only applies to "us" and not "them." You see, "the others" are devils, and "we" are the "believers." The "others" are not human. That bible stuff only applies to humans - like us. That's the logic behind it all, you see.

24. "... We are an old-fashioned, independent, fundamental, King James Bible only,
separated Baptist church ..." sez the website

Steven Anderson likes controversy. In March, he seems to have said this on a message board about Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist:

What is ironic is that they actually believe that homos can be saved if they repent of their homosexuality. Therefore, they actually have nothing in common with us

See:

In April, he had a run-in with the border patrol in April, in which he sat in his locked car, refusing to move and blocking traffic at a Yuma check-point

25. I have to wonder just where these people get their ideas from...
Edited on Fri Aug-21-09 12:36 PM by rasputin1952
I must have missed the parts where the notions of love, understanding, compassion, forgiveness and seeking wisdom were somehow usurped by unbridled hatred and a call for murder of those who don't live exactly as some "preacher" demands they live.

I didn't miss the parts where hypocrites and and purveyors of lies in the name of God are condemned though. I wonder how many sheep have been slaughtered to give these "preachers" the clothing they need to cover the fact they are little more than rabid wolves preying on others...:(

I can't recall Jesus speaking of homosexuality at all, much less killing people...even in the wildest of stretches, I can't figure where something like that is even alluded to. Maybe Paul had something to say about it, but I pretty much ignore what he has to say, he wrote letters to individual churches and about individuals w/in those sects.

If there is a hell, this "preacher" has flames licking at his feet, and he still stokes the fire. Fools rush in, to bad they take others w/them...what's really sad, is that the others go willingly.

60. People like him come to religion with their own
individual fears and prejudices, and then they twist the bible to conform with their beliefs.

The bible is the literal word of god when it suits their purposes, but it is symbolic when it doesn't. I remember a Baptist minister telling me that Jesus never drank WINE. It was actually fruit juice!

A person can find anything they want in the bible and justify a vast array of sins, then they can call it religion.

"That's who just sold our country into fascism. That's who just sold our corporations to the government."
It took a re-reading to notice the *direction* of the selling. Our poor, defenseless corporations sold to a gay fascist government, which Jesus wants to execute.
Makes me think of Brad Pitt's line in Seven:
"When a person is insane, as you clearly are, do you know that you're insane? Maybe you're just sitting around, reading "Guns and Ammo", masturbating in your own feces, do you just stop and go, "Wow! It is amazing how fucking crazy I really am!"? Yeah. Do you guys do that?"
