A Useful CBS News memo analogy (silver lining in the cloud?)
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 12:57 PM by dsewell
A helpful role-playing scenario for your consideration.

Your freeper friend acquaintance: "Ha-ha! Your liberal pal Dan Rather tried to torpedo Bush with a bunch of bogus documents, but he got caught! Ha-ha!"

You: "You know, Dan Rather has had a remarkable career in journalism, but you've got me on this one. He thought those memos were real, but he didn't investigate adequately, and talked CBS News into airing a story based on false documents. That's just not good journalistic practice. I hate to say it, but maybe he should resign, and if he doesn't, CBS might be justified in firing him. I supposed you'd agree?"

Your freeper friend acquaintance: "There's no 'maybe' about it! Can his ass!"

You: "Okay, I'll accept that. Now tell me: George W. Bush was given information on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that he thought was true, didn't question his advisers closely enough, and talked the country into going to war on the basis of faulty intelligence. That's just not good presidential leadership. So you must agree with me he should resign or be defeated in November?"

Your freeper friend acquaintance: <splutter splutter spluttter>

--Works for me, your mileage may vary.

3. You bet, and to add to the outrageousness of the
situation, the Republican Congress has not yet called for an investigation of the Niger documents that the President used as a cause for WAR, but some of them have called for an investigation of the CBS documents. Amazing.

5. One of the silver lining in this document story is that
most Americans don't know a thing about it. I conversated with at least 3 people over the weekend about it and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about. They were saying "What memos?":eyes:
