Speaker of the House says Al Qaeda wants a Kerry victory
Hastert's al Qaeda comment draws fire

Idea that terrorists want Kerry to win called 'silly,' 'disgraceful'

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/19/hastert.remark/index.html

When a reporter asked Hastert if he thought al Qaeda would operate with more comfort if Kerry were elected, the speaker said, "That's my opinion, yes."

<...>

"The president of the United States, on August 6th of 2001, was told in his briefing that America was going to be attacked by al Qaeda and they may use airplanes," McAuliffe said, referring to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

<...>

"Let me just say this in the simplest possible terms," Edwards said at a rally in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. "When John Kerry is president of the United States, we will find al Qaeda where they are and crush them before they can do damage to the American people."

Purported al Qaeda letter calls truce in Spain

"The statement said it supported U.S. President George W. Bush in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilisation."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected.""

10. Yeah...that and...
Bush will keep on inciting hatred against America thereby swelling the ranks of groups like Al Qaeda.

15. Yes, Why Would They Want Bush Out of Office?
He's their biggest recruiting tool.

17. geez - the terrorists are Undecideds then huh?
which is it? Bush? or Kerry?

considering that the letter the quote comes form is coming from them, and the allegation they want Kerry to win is coming from the White House (where everyday is "opposite day") i'm guessing Al Qaeda's gonna vote for Bush.

3. See, Bush is a uniter
First, 2/3s of the planet want Kerry, now Bush has pushed al Qaeda into the Kerry camp. Geeez, George, I guess you are a miserable failure.

4. Some facts on how Bush has served the interests of al Qaeda:
1. Bush was told bin Laden was getting ready to hit America, but did nothing.

2. Bin Laden attacked us on our own soil, killing 3,000 people, and Bush failed to bring him to justice.

3. Bush had bin Laden cornered in Tora Bora, but let him walk away.

4. Bin Laden warned his followers that America was out to take over Arab states. Bush made the prediction come true.

5. Bin Laden wanted to splinter the West, pitting old allies against each other. Bush went right along with the plan.

6. Bin Laden boasted he would "cleanse the Islamic holy land of infidels." Bush complied by ordering US forces out of Saudi Arabia and urging Americans to flee the Saudi peninsula.

7. Bin Landen boasted he could bring down a superpower just like Russia in Afghanistan. Bush has us bogged down in Iraq, unable to get control despite all our military strength.

George W. Bush is the best thing that ever happened to Osama bin Laden. There's no question bin Laden benefits if Bush is re-elected: four more years of America playing into the terrorists' hands at every turn.

7. Bin Landen boasted he could bring down a superpower just like Russia in Afghanistan.

Don't forget, the US (Reagan) helped bin Ladin and his Freedom Fighters in their fight against the Soviet Union.

16. That's true. But in the minds of the Afghan fighters...
they themselves are covered in all the glory. It was THEIR valor, ALLAH's blesssing, blah blah blah. In their minds, THEY were the clever ones for making use of the United States.

A garbled understanding of the reality, no doubt, but from all I've read, that's how these al Qaeda types think. "We will use the West's own tools to destroy it." That kind of garbage.

We're dealing with real sick-o's. They relish the thought of America flailing about, living in fear and lashing out at the rest of the world.

That's what they wanted. Thanks to George Bush, that's what they got.

:grr:

8. Dennis Hastert is a bloated pig of a politician.
These people will stop at nothing. I'm so glad they aren't using 'terrorism or terrorists' as a campaign stategy. Shame on these men.

9. The good news:
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 09:27 AM by deutsey
The Right is scared enough to use pathetic fear-mongering tactics like this.

The bad news:

A sizeable number of voters is scared enough to fall for such fear-mongering tactics.

12. This really should be denounced saying stuff like that, I have no idea
why the public stands for it or the press. The press has a responsibility to denounce this sort of attack and devious political strategy. It is ruining our country.

thank goodness Edwards stays above the fray, but still, what is wrong with these rethuglicians?

14. I heard a snip of Bill Schneider played on Stern this morning agreeing...
He said that Osama and Al Queda want to defeat Bush because he is so strong and powerful against terrorism.

What bull shit! I can't believe a "news man" is actually repeating this stuff.
