Would You Be Eligible to be Drafted If * Wins?
I think that I would be. I won't turn 35 until August of 2006, by which time the draft * proposes would be in full swing if he decides to do it.

I have skill sets which are specifically mentioned in the Pentagon memo, which is not a good thing no doubt.

I wonder if the fact that I have early-onset arthritis and terrible joint problems would get me out of it. I wonder who will be "exempt" - mothers? Will we be having women get pregnant to avoid the draft?

I find it distressingly ironic that W.rong was not willing to go to war for this country but he has no problems calling up and murdering thousands of others to fight his wars. If there is a God there will be a special, particularly heinous place in hell for the chimp.

5. Probably jail for me
I don't know all the specifics of any potential draft, but:
1. I'd refuse to kill, as I don't believe in violence;
2. Vegan meals in the military? Maybe. In the field? Not likely. And I'm pretty sure that all combat boots have leather on them;
3. If somehow forced into combat, I'm pretty sure I'd be a big wimp. My ex father in law was Vietnam infantry. Jumping into enemy fire and whatnot. Big ups to those that have served and put themselves into the line of fire. I couldn't storm a beach or take a hill, even though my life would depend on it. Friendly fire would probably be my endgame, and I wouldn't blame them as I'd be a liability.

I'm 33 this year, in great physical shape, educated, but no rich daddy to bail me out and send me to the Florida National Beach Lifeguards...

And Rangel proposed it to make a point that only poor kids go to war.

10. All it takes is an act of congress.
Any one of us can be drafted. I am a health professional, which makes me a bit more interesting to the DoD. However, I think the more likely scenario is that the "back door draft" will continue until supplies are exhausted, which is quite a bit away. Guard and reserve units will continue to be called up, stop-losses will continue, and the IRR will get called. That should provide the necessary numbers. It's not fair, but there's no way congress would pass a draft, and Bush knows it.

12. Ask yourself if you're willing to answer the GOP call to murder
because at that point that's what a draft would be.

I supported our troops (i.e. I want our soldiers to stay alive and come home safe, to be well equipped, well cared for...and well informed) who were in the service and who went where they were assigned. I understood how hard it is when you have signed an oath to even consider objecting to your orders even if you suspect things may be awry because you are getting conflicting messages and you need to take care of your family etc.

But for those who are not enlisted...who have signed on oath, and who now have the lessons of the last 3 years...there are no such excuses. Who would respond to that call to join the Bushista's and wage war?

Fortunately for me I did my time and am far beyond the draft age...but if I were a younger man...I would be asking myself this question very seriously.

18. We should be making hundreds of copies of this,....
and making the rounds of local high school and college parking lots with it.

Anyone laid off with lots of time on their hands on weekdays? This could be just as important as registering new voters. Waking them up so they WANT to go get registered is important too.

Let's do it!

turns 18 in July. I think if it's true that they do a "selective skills" draft, he'll be safe, though. He plans on going to college for history and viola performance. Not a lot of demand for that in the military.

28. Many gay people marry for appearances sakes
I know of several cases, one involving a lesbian friend that worked for Allison Transmissions. She married a gay man she worked with. They don't live together, but they both enjoy the benefits of hetero couples.

Should we mention politicians that marry in order to hide their true orientation?

The military will never challenge an assertion of homosexuality. They are so homophobic that they will think, like former draft Director General Lewis B. Hershey once said, that anyone that calls himself a homosexual is a very disturbed individual for saying so even if false.

38. Name one person that has been conscripted in the US since Vietnam
And don't say that so-and-so that is in the Ready Reserves was drafted. People that already served, still have several years of obligation left in which they can be called to active duty. That's not a draft! It is in the contract they signed!

and there's a long list of things I can't eat without the risk of being hospitalised. Something tells me MREs don't come prepared to handle dietary restrictions. If the draft board wants me in the U.S. military, y'all had really better be worried. By that time, our major mode of transportation would be a handbasket anyway.

I'm 16 now, 17 in march...who knows after that.
Unlike Bush, if called on, I'd serve.
And like Kerry, when I got home I'd tell the truth.
You know, a year ago I would have told you that I would not have served. But this election has taught me a lot about courage and integrity; it's not born, it's made. Kerry decided to be brave. Bush didn't. I'd much rather be a John Kerry, or Bob Kerrey or Al Gore or Wes Clark than a George Bush or Dick Cheney or John Ascroft et al (the list of Chickenshit Chickenhawks is nearly endless).

32. I am past it but
I have a nearly 17 year old son who is a junior in high school taking AP courses in computers already. He would be a "prime target". I also have a 12 year old daughter. I am concerned about her as well.

I work with lots of younger kids though and I have brought the subject up a few times there already. They are very concerned. Even got one girl to register to vote last week because of this issue alone.

35. Yes,
but I don't think I'd go. I'm a woman, a mother and I certainly would not be able to be a soldier. I don't have it in me and that is one reason I feel a draft is rediculous. Anyone who doesn't have what it takes would end up being forced to go to fight.

I'll have a son who will be draft eligible. I fear a GWB win would virtually guarantee another decade or two in Iraq. That may be looking a little too far into the future, but I can't help but think it's a distinct possibility. How long were we in Vietnam?

those who would refuse this bullshit, which would be millions.

Apparently they already have plans as high as OIF 10. That's another 5-7 years. That means anyone who's 14 now is potentially scrued.

My kid is 9. Should this crap last 9 years from now, the wife has already said she'd make plans to send him to live in Sault Ste Marie with her friend.

I'll be damned if my kid is being sent into the desert SKS playground so Kellogg, Brown and Root, Bechtol and Hallibutane can make money.
