If I thought it would do any good, I’d write a letter to the President.
Do you think he’d read it?
I know just what I’d tell him. I’d remind him that he won by like 6 million votes, a modern day political landslide. All of the small donations his campaign got from small people like me, 5, 10, 20 dollars at a time, yep, I’d point that out too. I’d make sure I included the NYT poll showing the vast majority of Americans asking for a strong public option for health care. And just to be sure, I’d want him to know that most of us aren’t CEO’s for major insurance and big pharma. We’re just the people who voted for him. The people that need him.
Regarding the republicans I’d say to him, “Barack, you can’t make everyone your friend, some people are just never going to agree with you no matter what.”
I would let him know it’s nice to work together, but everyone isn’t as nice as he is. I would say, popularity is not everything and sometimes doing the right thing is hard. And if his heart still pined for the love of the pugs and blue dogs I would sigh, and speak slowly, as if to a dull child, “Look Barack, they’re just not that into you.”
I would remind him that we voted for him expecting big things and liberal results.
I would ask him to please end the wars.
I would tell him the first time my daughter voted it was for him, and she still believes in hope.
I would tell him do the right thing for the American people, and the American people will have his back.
I would tell him 60 years is long enough to wait for real health care in America. I would take pictures of graves of people who died because of not having health insurance and I would send them along with the letter. I would ask him please. I would tell him I’ll beg on my knees if I have too.
If my letter was one of the 10 out of thousands that got read, that’s what I’d tell the President.
