This "rumor" is just another example of the media whirling dirvish for ratings. I for one, and damn sick and tired of it. In my opinion, they are damaging the country with their antics. The confusion in the populous is the direct result of the tabloid media.

I think Obama could write it in blood and they would still say that he is waivering, trying to stick it to the left, etc...

Its all I can do to watch TV, read the newspapers or websites anymore.
And FYI.... the economy is starting to turn around. Knock off the god damn gloom and doom crap!!!! Where has mature discourse and debate go to in this country?

JFK and FDR would be demonized by the media we have today who would destroy them and their agenda to benefit their bottom line and profit margins!!!!

1. That WOULD be particularly "boneheaded" of him
To show up at a Labor Union picnic and then throw labor unions under the proverbial "bus" in regards to the PO, especially when the AFL-CIO won't endorse HCR without one.
Of course, Obama is smarter than THAT.

5. POLITICO is funded by right wingers, I don't know why DU is so in love with it
It seems like DU has to go into "The Sky Is Falling" mode every other day now. Some stupid rumor, lots of threads, next day the rumor is proven to be bullshit, Rinse and Repeat a day later.

14. Because some DUers love RW bullshit almost as much as the right wing does.
Some people here wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they couldn't spent their day screaming "Bush's third term," "Obama is a corporate whore," and bemoaning the more reality-based "Obamabots."

16. Because some DUers are bitter Obama haters who do nothing but dig up negative BS
all day long and then post it here.

6. I don't know why
but this made me laugh out loud - "FYI folks, if Obama was going to nix the public option it wouldn't be at a union picnic!"

You would think that would be obvious. I agree with your post, I'm sick of the media too.

9. Caltrops. This rumor isn't just a ratings ploy, it's a caltrop. Now that Enzi
and Grassley have lost their paper-thin credibility as being "negotiators" in the healthcare process, now that the various townhall ploys have been tried and staled on the palate, there needs to be a new way to stall. Obama's about to gear up for a final push and so is the other side. They keep thinking that by saying the public option is dead or unpopular with Americans, they can make it true.

12. All too easily we latch onto the headlines......
.... that support our preconceived notions. IE "Politico quotes an unnamed source who says the same thing they've been saying for months, therefore, Obama is a failure JUST like I've known all along!"

13. Its odd that people put so much credence in rumors when there is
substantial evidence that the House, and the unions will not allow a bill without public option to be passed.

21. And lets hope the rumors are "Hail Mary" passes by the private right wing PR firms
hired by the private insurers to gin up dangerous fear and hatred in "genuine grass roots groups."

There are other PR firms devoted (a.k.a. paid to support) the cause of protecting private sector profits.

They'll do anything they can get away with to keep us from the simplest option-- open up Medicare to all who choose it.

How can they compete with a damn plan that has such low overhead, and is a wonderfully American combination of public and private elements--
-- Medical services PRIVATELY delivered, between me and my doctors
-- Payments and cost controls publicly administered, accountable to us all.

Our legislators have only given them four decades to prove they could do things better.

Private insurers have only had over ten years since last stomping out our cries for national health insurance to show us they could do better. And we all know they have failed miserably to prove that case-- millions more uninsured, millions more bankrupt, private profits soaring.

They have failed miserably and didn't want us to talk about that all summer. They had to hire right wing PR firms to stir up ridiculous but very dangerous sentiments to distract us from looking at things clearly.

THEY HAVE FAILED MISERABLY.

We are now desperate for a system that has much lower overhead and high customer satisfaction-- it is called Medicare. The Canadians call their version Single Payer. We have an existing system we can improve and expand on without 10 more years of sincere discussion about how to tweak it.

Expand Medicare to all who want it. Phase us in. Reconciliation. 51 votes.

To give businesses who have failed miserably yet another chance to compete by imposing regulations which they can use to explain to their shareholders why they have to do the ethical thing and cover everyone instead of reaping their customary private profit levels is already very generous.

Especially to an industry that has poured millions into hiring professional PR firms to generate dangerous fear and hatred to protect its profits.
