Moderate democrat-v- liberal democrat
How is it that a moderate democrat(Clinton) who tend to be a southern connect better with the black base than a liberal democrat(Kerry) who tend to be from the north?

Is it a comfort thing, because we were force to integrate down here?

Please excuse crazy ass zell and Ted Kennedy. zell is just crazy and I grew in the time when black homes had a picture of Jesus, MLK and JFK in the living room.

1. I wasn't aware that Kerry wasn't playing well with Blacks.
Have you got any links to support your claim?

4. no polls
just words on the streets. The AA community here was energized in 2000, but the energy is lagging now. Everyone talk about how bad bush is, but they are not motivated like 4yrs ago and they should be even more so.

I do not know if they are just focused on just trying to get by because of the war and layoffs and that has taken all of their energy.

It would be interesting to see some polls on the AA voters and the numbers from 4yrs ago. I have a feeling that 4yrs ago the numbers were probably higher at this point in the game. I really think that this could be huge problem that the dems are overlooking until it is to late.

2. Just one pointer...
Out of several possible:

Bill Clinton: risen from poverty in the South. John Kerry: risen as a patrician in the Northeast.

And that's not even touching on Clinton's superb "I feel your pain" comunication skills that made people feel he cared about them. Kerry's more (much, much more) someone who makes an "intellectual" appeal to his audience.

Different styles, impossible to compare.

Having said that, I'm not buying that Kerry's not connecting with the Black community.

Think about it this way: Clinton connected even better.

5. He need to connect better then
or use Edwards to do it for him if he can't. I have a feeling that the AA turnout is going to be smaller this year than last year.

We CAN NOT let this happen. Kerry need to at least keep the AA numbers that Gore had to win this thing. bush will not get these people, but they could choose to not vote at all. This will affect us from the national level to the local city council!

At least we do not have to worry about Illinois! Go Obama!!!!!!

3. Big Dog has charisma, and we all loved him, even when he was wrong!

Big Dog had that disarming smile, even when he was being less than forthright. We loved him as much as we hated his enemies. Perhaps it was because we hated his enemies so much, that we cut Clinton too much slack when he went wrong on the issues.

Politicians like Clinton that can connect with people in a sort of mystical way, despite their policies and personal flaws, are very rare indeed.
