Local Celebrity Speaks Up for John Kerry
in the article some Bush supporters are quoted saying Bush is doing something about pollution but they didn't seem to know much about it. more evidence of ignorance of many bush supporters.

< local Congressman and a Tucson celebrity made the rounds on Sunday for the Kerry-Edwards campaign.

"Unfortunately we have a president in office who puts the profits of large corporations ahead of the health and well-being of our children," said singer and community activist Linda Ronstadt.

She and Congressman Raul Grijalva stopped by the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center on Sunday afternoon. Under the slogan, Una Neuva Esperanza, which means "new hope,” Kerry supporters say that since Bush took office, the number of superfund cleanup sites and environmentally related health diseases have increased, while investigation and prosecution of industrial pollution has decreased.

"Their health is at stake, that polluters paying for the damage that they do, which Bush has eliminated as a requirement, those are the important issues that we have,” said Rep. Raul Grijalva, (D) Arizona.

But the event did not happen without Bush supporters gathering outside the center to show their support for the President, and defend his record.>

1. Bush = Environmental Racism
And in the Southern / Southwestern states that's clearly felt. From that older piece:
... the EPA is not enforcing pollution controls on oil refineries. The article is the result of a three month joint effort of that newspaper (the Star-Telegram) and their parent news group Knight Ridder ... this deliberately looking the other way has resulted in one instance in a leaping increase of emissions by 30% in one year, from 2002-2003.
