CALLING ALL GRAPHIC ARTISTS!!!!
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 02:02 PM by ulTRAX
I've seen some great graphics posted here for guerilla campaigning. I want to suggest another. If someone can do some hi-res graphics, they could distributed on the web and printed up anywhere... preferably in GOP strongholds. Maybe they can be handed out to crowds going to Bush rallies! LOL

Imagine finding a folded $50 laying around... the urge to pick it up is undeniable. But the $50 is only half printed. On the other side of the fold, a message:

"Sorry, you thought it was real but it's as phony as the Bush Tax Cuts."

ON THE BACKSIDE: "The national debt is 7.354 Trillion. As long as we're in debt, ALL of Bush's tax cuts are money he's stealing from our children. That's now $100,000 for a family of four. We can not even fund our own defense department without borrowing money from nations like China. Stop the insanity. Register now. Vote in November."

Add some graphics to make these abstract budget numbers concrete. For example Bush's 600 Billion estimated 04 deficit would cover a baseball diamond (90x90) to a height of 3240 FEET in tightly packed $1 bills.) There can also be a comparative graphic of the Clinton 87 Surplus and Bush's total debt. Figures below.

===============================================
Using a micrometer I found a dollar bill is between .0044" and .0050" thick. The paper is on the thin side but the areas that are pressed are thicker. I used the average of .0047.

A dollar bill is 6.125" x 2.625" x .0047"

$1.00 bill = .0755671 cubic inches

$22867.09 in a cubic foot... at least mathematically.

1 Billion....... 1000000000 / 22867.09 = 43730.968 cubic feet (that's way up)

600 Billion (OMB estimate for FY on-budget deficit) = 26,238,580.8 cubic feet

This would cover a baseball diamond (90x90) to a height of 3239.33'

600 Billion would cover a basketball court 94x50' to a height of 5582.67'

600 Billion would an entire NCAA football field (including end zones and sidelines... 160x360') to a height of 455.53'

As for the BUSH DEBT of 1626 Billion debt = 7,1102,310 cubic feet.

The Washington Monument is 55x55 at the base and 555' tall..... 1678875 cubic feet (actually much less since according to http://www.nps.gov/nama/mortar/mortar.htm the monument is only 34' thick at the top.)

Roughly 1637 Billion = 42.64 Washington Monuments (if the actual volume of the monument were calculated it might be closer to 50.)

The national debt of $7,354 Billion would equal 5.4 World Trade Towers in volume.
===============================================

DEFICIT NUMBERS: Remember that it's the ON-budget revenue deficit that's the true indicator of the nation's fiscal health. The unified budget borrows off-budget surpluses to cover on-budget revenue shortfalls. In FY00 Clinton had a 87 Billion ON-budge surplus.

CBO ESTIMATES: download "SEPTEMBER 2004 The Budget
and Economic Outlook: An Update" at www.cbo.gov

Scroll down to Table 1.2 CBO’s Baseline Budget Projections

Unified Deficit = 422 BILLION (number reported in news this month)
Off-budget surplus = +153 BILLION
On-budget deficit = -574 BILLION

OMB ESTIMATES: http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2005/05msr.pdf
This estimate is from 7-30-04 and provides the White House's 455 Billion deficit figure reported in the news last August. You'll have to scroll down to Table 14. BUDGET SUMMARY BY CATEGORY where you'll see the real off-budget deficit is 600 BILLION.... with 155 Billion in off-budget surpluses being borrowed.
===============================================

BUSH DEBT: go to http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/~www/opdpen.cgi
$7,353,679,708,420 - $5,727,776,738,304 = $1626 BILLION

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Any other ideas anyone?

Hmmmmm... according to this page http://www.toptips.com/debt_history.htm

It took about 205 years to get to the first 1.6 trillion in debt.... and Bush got there in less than 4 years.

Can't forget to provide the sources. Please include in some fine print somewhere that the 600 billion figure is a CBO deficit estimate as of 7-04 and repesent the "on-budget" revenues.

10. My First Two Ads on the Tax Cut / Deficit
These have a more playful tone than my other ads, but please let me know what you think. Economics is not my strong suit, so please let me know if I've gotten facts wrong. Also, if you haven't seen any of my other stuff, please go to http://www.bigpath.net. There are a lot of ads there on different themes and they're all free to use as ads or flyers or posters.
Thanks.

13. Just make sure you're following the rules concerning counterfeiting.
I know it's against the law to reproduce U.S. currency at its actual size. Don't know whether reproducing only part of it would get you in trouble.

The 1/2 currency idea was originally used in my town during a mayoral campaign some 45 years ago. I just built on the idea.

Come to think of it... he lost. I wonder if he ended up in the federal pen! LOL

18. Flyer Idea - John Kerry busts BCCI
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2004/0409.sirota.html

Two decades ago, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) was a highly respected financial titan. In 1987, when its subsidiary helped finance a deal involving Texas oilman George W. Bush, the bank appeared to be a reputable institution, with attractive branch offices, a traveler's check business, and a solid reputation for financing international trade. It had high-powered allies in Washington and boasted relationships with respected figures around the world.

All that changed in early 1988, when John Kerry, then a young senator from Massachusetts, decided to probe the finances of Latin American drug cartels. Over the next three years, Kerry fought against intense opposition from vested interests at home and abroad, from senior members of his own party; and from the Reagan and Bush administrations, none of whom were eager to see him succeed.

By the end, Kerry had helped dismantle a massive criminal enterprise and exposed the infrastructure of BCCI and its affiliated institutions, a web that law enforcement officials today acknowledge would become a model for international terrorist financing. As Kerry's investigation revealed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, BCCI was interested in more than just enriching its clients--it had a fundamentally anti-Western mission. Among the stated goals of its Pakistani founder were to "fight the evil influence of the West," and finance Muslim terrorist organizations. In retrospect, Kerry's investigation had uncovered an institution at the fulcrum of America's first great post-Cold War security challenge.

...

Kerry's probe didn't create any popular new governmental programs, reform the tax code, or eliminate bureaucratic waste and fraud. Instead, he shrewdly used the Senate's oversight powers to address the threat of terrorism well before it was in vogue, and dismantled a key terrorist weapon. In the process, observers saw a senator with tremendous fortitude, and a willingness to put the public good ahead of his own career. Those qualities might be hard to communicate to voters via one-line sound bites, but they would surely aid Kerry as president in his attempts to battle the threat of terrorism.

OK.... imagine the main text as:

"The national debt is 7.354 Trillion. That's now $100,000 for a family of four. It took 204 years to get to the first 1.6 trillion in debt. Bush has managed this in just 4 years.

As long as We The People are in debt, ALL of Bush's tax cuts are just money he's stealing from our children. The Bush deficit is so high we can not even fund our own defense department without borrowing money from nations like China.

Stop the insanity. Register now. Vote Democratic in November."

23. Just a little insight from someone who was duped by one of those
they piss people off. Evangelists use them to "spread the word" around here and they leave them in public bathrooms. They are VERY real looking and one day I was totally broke and hungry for lunch and saw what I thought was a $10 bill in the bathroom. On the other side was a "Have you found Jesus?" message. I'm a Christian, but I said out loud "I didn't know he was lost" and crumpled it up and threw it away.

I got really excited there for a second.

Ha! It was too good an idea not to be used by the forces of darkness. But there's a key difference: the intent here is to capitalize on that sense of being ripped-off and connect it with Bush ripping off future generations to buy votes today.
