http://nftunderground.blogspot.com/2004/09/undermining-democracy.html

The latest in a string of dirty campaign tricks is a direct mailing that went out to West Virginia voters claiming that the Bible will be banned if liberals win in the November elections.

1. Which Bible do they mean?
Would that be the King James edition or the Revised Standard or the various fundy editions? Do they mean Good News for Modern Man will be banned? What about the Dead Sea Scrolls? Out the door with them too? The Talmud? Does it make a difference if it is in Hebrew, Greek or Latin? What about French editions? Won't Kerry want to keep those?

Can I keep my personal Book of Shadows or does that have to go too?

Rosetta Stone? Aztec hieroglyphics?

3. This reminds me of what the Repubs said about Al Smith in 1928
He was the first Catholic nominee and they said the Holland Tunnel (I think) which was under construction at the time was being built so that the Pope could come over secretly from Rome and tell Smith as President what to do.

The more things change...

5. They made similar claims against JFK.
Sigh. And plus, isn't like 80% or more of this country Christian -- or at least identifying themselves as Christians on polls? So, wouldn't that mean that the majority of Dems are probably Christian, even if ALL Repugs are? Er ... it's late. I can't do math. Still! They act like they're the oppressed minority. Makes me sick. Try being of a true minority religion or spiritual path and see how that goes.

2. Counterpunch
I say we ought to print our own:

"Think you have rights now? You won't if Bush wins"

"Are you aged 18-34? There will be a draft for you if Bush wins"

"Women have a choice? They won't if Bush wins"

"(Nearly) free public schools? Not if Bush wins"

"Believe in separation of church and state? Not if Bush wins"

Let's just be vicious pit bull about it...go for the jugular!

4. Maybe we should be worrying
about the Constitution being scrapped instead.

6. Sounds like a hell of a good idea to me.
Alright, I'm just kidding, kind of.
