My 13 Year Old Son's Take On Obama's Speech Yesterday
When I asked him about it after school yesterday the first thing he said was "He doesn't want us to play XBox too much."

With a little prompting he recalled a lot more of what was said though.

He also told me only three kids in his class chose not to see it.

1. I asked my 16 year old if she was indoctrinated
She laughed and said some kids were groaning about being required to watch it.

She told them to shut up, it was time for them to be edu-ma-cated.

I didn't know the school was showing it for sure, the local news indicated that only a few schools in the are were showing it and mentioned 3 in the entire Cleveland area. I guess they were trying help frame the controversy.

2. My kids...
were indoctrinated.

My 10 year old said it was boring, like all speeches. But she remembered a great deal of what it contained, so I know she actually listened.

My 13 year old found it inspirational and thinks President Obama is a great role model. She also retained a great deal of the speech and was able to tell me in great detail exactly what she liked about it and why she found President Obama to be a good example for kids. She also argued with other kids in the class who were denigrating the President.
