Edwards Raps Hastert on Terror Comments
<PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday accused House Speaker Dennis Hastert of stooping "to the politics of fear" when he said al-Qaida terrorists may launch another terrorist attack to swing the Nov. 2 election in Democrat John Kerry's favor.

Hastert's comments, at a fund-raiser Saturday night in his home state of Illinois, were reminiscent of recent remarks by Vice President Dick Cheney that Edwards has called "un-American."

Edwards said Hastert had joined the "fear mongering choir."

"One clear sign of weakness and failed leadership is when a politician stoops to the politics of fear," he said, campaigning near Philadelphia. "Last night, he said something to the effect that al-Qaida wants John Kerry to be President of the United States.

"Let me say this in the simplest possible terms: When John Kerry is President of the United States, we will find al-Qaida where they are and crush them before they can do damage to the American people," Edwards said.>

3. The terrorists have won
When our politicians like Hastert start claiming that they are going to influence our elections.

Hastert just handed the game, set and match to the terrorists by saying what he did. He should watch his words.

These Republican cowards are letting the terrorists win.

5. DING DING DING We have a winner!....or do we??
You're right in one respect - Hastert's remark effectively acknowledged that the party currently in (gross, widespread abuse of) power is on pretty shaky elective ground, and that one solid terrorist attack could really do a number on their credibility.

Unfortunately, in reference to the sheeple, this is a win-win remark:

If the US does sustain another attack, it will be made into a "don't give in to the terrorists - vote Republican" issue.

If the US doesn't sustain another attack, then the spin will be "vote for the people who kept you safe."

My gut feeling is that al-Qaida won't attack unless it looks to HELP George W. stay in power. The Chimp is a better recruitment poster boy than anything al-Qaida could have dreamed up. George W. sure is a uniter, not a divider - he's managed to unify the whole world against us and has, by his smirking, preening incompetence, made assholes of us all. Thanks, George. Asshole.
