Lieberman Faces Tough Re-Election Fight in 2012
Lieberman Faces Tough Re-Election Fight in 2012

A new DailyKos/Research 2000 poll in Connecticut looks ahead to the 2012 U.S. Senate race and finds Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) losing badly in a three-way race.

In one match up, Gov. Jodi Rell (R) leads with 46% with Ned Lamont (D) and Lieberman tied at 26%. In another, Rell leads with 40%, followed by Richard Blumenthal at 32% and Lieberman at 23%.

While 47% have a favorable opinion of Lieberman, 50% do not.

3. I think Lieberman serves a useful purpose.
In that his presence in the party (or the caucus, at least) enhances our 'big tent' credentials greatly.

17. Traitor Joe Lieberman undermines us at every turn.
That mofo deserves to be run out of town on a rail. And then he deserves to be run over by the freight train.

4. I do not believe that Rell is going to run for Senate, so...
we don't have to worry about these scenarios.

If Blumenthal runs, he'll easily beat both Lieberman and the Republican candidate. However, there is still the possibility that Lieberman will get the Democratic endorsement, or win in a primary, in which he's guaranteed another term in the Senate.

9. I don't believe it either. I think Blumenthal runs.
Rell wants to be Governor again.

It's only a matter of time before LIEberman finds Jesus and goes on the Jesus circuit from church to church!

10. Two questions
1) Will Lieberman run in the Democratic primary? I would assume that he might not as he very likely is substantially less popular than when he was unpopular in 2006.

2) Has Rell, who seems very popular, said she wants to run for Senate? Lieberman would have lost in 2006 if there were a popular or even modestly acceptable Republican. The Republican candidate got a very tiny part of the vote. I think Lieberman got more Republican votes than he did.

The most surprising thing to me in this 3 way poll is that Lieberman is still getting as much as he is. It would be fascinating to know cross tabs on whether he is getting self identified Democrats or republicans.

12. Lieberman will probably run as an independent again
He will have to rely on more Rethugs this time in my opinion.
Rell has never said she will run for the Senate. She is putting together an exploratory committee to perhaps run again for Governor in 2010.
Lieberman is getting a lot of Rethug support these days and some independents, maybe some conservative Dems.

13. I wonder if he might end up doing a Specter in reverse
He can't count on the Republicans finding a candidate as poor as they did last time.

11. Hard to say right now who's doing what in this race but it surely would
be a fine thing to have Joe Lieberman turned out of the Senate by Connecticut voters in favor of a liberal Democrat.

14. I think it will depend a lot on whether
he supports Obama in 2012 or his Republican opponent.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he stabs us in the back again.

19. As a Liberal Democrat
I must say I like Jodi Rell. Not sure why she is not a Independent. Like her a lot more than Joe Lieberman. Has Ned Lamont announced he is running? Had not heard.

20. Jodi Rell is okay. Don't like some of her budget cuts.

She is a moderate to liberal Repub. She is who she is.
Lieberman has contorted himself so many times in the last few years I don't recognize him anymore. He became a Senator when I was a kid, in the late 80's. My conservative father hated him back then, but loves him now.

Have heard nothing about Lamont.
