New Kerry Ad Links Iraq War Cost, Domestic Woes
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A33106-2004Sep19.html

WASHINGTON - Democrat John Kerry links the cost of the Iraq war to problems at home and vows in a new television ad to both "defend America and fight for the middle class."

"200 billion dollars. That's what we are spending in Iraq because George Bush chose to go it alone," Kerry says in the ad, to start airing Monday in 13 competitive states where he is on the air. "Now the president tells us we don't have the resources to take care of health care and education here at home. That's wrong."

Suggesting that Bush ignored domestic ills while focusing on the war abroad, Kerry says: "As president, I'll stop at nothing to get the terrorists before they get us. But I'll also fight to build a stronger middle class."

The $200 billion estimate reflects the campaign's calculation of funds already spent on combat and reconstruction in Iraq, and money anticipated to be spent through next summer, based on congressional reports. The war has cost about $120 billion,
according to the White House Office of Budget and Management.

Washington, D.C. -The Democratic National Committee launched a new 30-second television ad today titled "Guard" which directly questions George W. Bush's lack of accountability on Iraq and the economy. "Guard" will air in at least ten battleground states over the next week.

"With this ad the DNC is continuing its focus on George W. Bush's credibility problem, because it is critical for the President to guard his credibility on national security and economic issues," said McAuliffe. "He stood on the deck of the U.S.S. Lincoln with a banner behind him reading – ‘Mission Accomplished.' Since that Mission Accomplished photo-op, more than 800 soldiers have been killed. Thousands have been injured. And we've spent $100 billion of the taxpayer's money.

3. Agree. "Guard" is a great ad. Better than MoveOnPac's "Quagmire"

5. Wolfie just showed part of this ad on "Late Edition"
The RNC talking point of the day is "retreat and defeat." Heard it all morning from various GOP contributors on the Sunday news shows mostly characterized as the old "cut and run" criticism. Damn these Rethugs are good; they march in lockstep, repeat their daily message over and over and the lazy media regurgitates it--even they can't miss it!

6. Then why are not people concerned about the deficit ?
If they were concerned about money, the deficit would be a major issue.
