How Kerry can get out of his Iraq quagmire
Toronto Star

. America will start counting the Iraqi dead and injured.

. America will do all in its power to hold, not postpone, the planned elections for a National Assembly in January.

. America will gradually pull out of Iraq.

. America will consider a United Nations trusteeship for Iraq, should the elected representatives want it.

. America will honour all the rules of the Geneva Convention in dealing with detainees.

. America will follow the rule of law and due process in dealing with terrorism suspects in the United States. It cannot preach democracy abroad while violating its basic precepts at home.

1. Thank you, Canada, for lighting a candle in the midst of our darkness.
Good God, you have to wonder how it's possible our side hasn't been able to enunciate a cogent, rational disengagement policy (a/k/a exit strategy). Do we really have the leadership in our party that is capable of thinking through problems like this? Or should we subcontract the thinking part out to people in Canada?

2. Great article, thanks for posting it. It's helpful to have a fresh
perspective from the outside looking in. The article seems to come from a more nuetral point of view. Here's what we see as the issue, here's some ideas. No emotional baggage or defensive posturing from being too close to the issue.
Thanks again.

3. Ugh
Iraq is not Kerry's quagmire.

It will soon be inherited, I hope.
