PHOTOS Seattle, um, welcomes Glenn Beck
Edited on Sun Sep-27-09 07:49 AM by Jackeens
1

Glenn Beck addresses approximately 7,500 paying fans at Safeco Field Saturday. The media, big government, big bail-outs, unions, and democrats were among those he bashed.

She has actually devoted a good portion of her life to promoting the cause of peace.

For me. I blame them all. Well, everyone but George. ;)

65. John did not do it alone.
there was also Yoko, Paul, Linda and Ringo. George was my favorite so I give him no blame.

My son is a big Beatles fan and he actually thinks that Paul was more to blame than John but thinks that it was better for them to part ways because of the ego war going on between John and Paul. At least I think that is what he thinks. Who knows with this younger generation. ;)

66. I think they had just gotten to the point where . . .
Their need to be individuals exceeded their need to be a part of the Beatles phenomenon.

Just today I read an article by rock journalist Ray Connolly of the Australian who had extraordinary access to Lennon in particular, but the other members of the group as well, and according to him, Lennon discussed the breakup as something necessary a good 6 months before it happened. They were waiting for Let It Be to be released before they announced, but it leaked before then.

75. Yes, I think the Beatles thing just got too big for them to handle
and they all had different roads to travel. I remember once when they said that when they preformed they could have just move their lips because the crowds screamed so loud they could barely even hear themselves sing.

I don't know anything for sure, but I do also believe that Paul and John had problems within the band because of their differences. The fact that they were given credit for most of the Beatles work did not help keep their egos in check. I really don't dislike any of them or blame any of them for the breakup. They were people just living their lives. George was always my favorite and that was what my post was based on. The joke meant to be that it was never your favorites fault. I guess I didn't make it clear that it was suppose to be a bit of a farce that it was anyone's fault.

72. But George was actually the first one to quit the band!
He walked out in the middle of the "Get Back" recording/filming sessions in January 1969. Sure, he came back a few days later, but still he was the first one who made the concept of "quitting the Beatles" a reality.

(well, other than Stuart Sutcliffe back in the Hamburg days, anyway.)

74. I thought it was Ringo that quit and came back?
George may have walked out because maybe he got tired of the fighting between Paul and John. I don't know. I just know that I have heard it said that George was the peace maker but even he got tired of the in fighting. After the breakup George still work with John on some of his works and remained friends with him.

My original post was not meant to be taken so serious. It was based on the fact that George was my favorite. George's sister lived in the town I grew up in. George and a couple of the guys came to visit her before they got famous and I saw them. When I first saw them in a car I thought they were ugly girls. Anyway, when they did get popular Beatles mania hit our town big and George was my (a teenage girl) favorite. My brothers and nephew worshiped John and most of the other girls in town loved Paul. I was a big Beatles fan for years but by the time they broke up I had moved on and was busy in my own life. Was not involved in the big Yoko Ono controversy.

My son now knows more about them than I do.

14. Gays 4 Glenn? Surely not.
I live in Seattle and the local news showed a bit of what went on. It looked as if there was a nice sized crowd of protestors and a lot of attendees. Beck was Beck, putting up Obama's and the governor's photo on the big screen so everyone could boo. There were interviews with people on both sides, and the whole thing seemed kind of predictable and meh. I'm very, very glad people turned out to protest (with, I might add, obviously home made signs), and not at all surprised that both sides were extremely "civilized" toward one another. Seattle's mostly like that. But Gays 4 Glenn? Srsly?

17. I think the key phrase here is "paying fans",
which explains why he didn't show up at the big teabagger rally!

Also, the fact that he couldn't attract more than 7,500 in a big city like Seattle (which is blue, but many of the outlying areas aren't) just shows how irrelevant Beck truly is.

faux (fō)

<French, from Old French fals; see false.?

It's also acceptable in Scrabble.

most of those probably came from outlying areas like Enumclaw, or Squim.

The had to pay to see this idiot? They'd have to pay me $7500 just to sit through 5 minutes of his shrieking screed.

Years ago, I worked in a hospital South of Seattle, in Renton, I didn't know ONE R back then in the area. Outlying areas, yes, there were a few, (Eastern WA is Red, or probably Purple these days), but in the Puget Sound area...gimme a break.

Thanks Seattle! You showed up and made us proud! Loved the anti-Beck turn-out...:loveya:

73. Actually, they're about to get one.
Greg Nickels isn't running again. But it was Bud Norris, the mayor of Mount Vernon who gave the key to BecKKK, not the mayor of Seattle. Mount Vernon is an hour or so north of Seattle about halfway between Everett and Bellingham. And unfortunately, some of these northern counties aren't exactly bastions of Liberalism.

BecKKK's visit to Safeco Field in Seattle was paid for by the Orwellianly named "Evergreen Freedom Foundation" which opposes both environmentalism and anything that could be considered actual freedom.
