Move to impeach Blair gains ground

London, Sept. 18. (Guardian News Service: Members of the UK parliament mounting an attempt to impeach Tony Blair for allegedly misleading the country over the war with Iraq on Thursday expressed confidence they could secure enough support to force a debate early next year.

The organisers, who launched the campaign last month, have the backing of 21 MPs. By January they hope to secure 50 supporters to revive this antiquated parliamentary device.

The campaign has received added impetus from the United Nations secretary general, Kofi Annan, who declared the US-led invasion of Iraq illegal earlier this week.

Alex Salmond, the Scottish National Party leader and one of the organisers, said: ``It is important democratically, when all other procedures fail, that parliament call the prime minister to account.''

some troops out of Iraq?

5. And if Tony goes down...
the Chimpinator will pretend he hardly ever knew the guy (sort of like he hardly knew Ken Lay). Even though Blair was inexplicably willing to be Shrub's lapdog for the last 3 years, Shrub will dump him at the pound. "Tony who?"

7. it really hurts me
that Blair allowed himself to be Bush's lackey on Iraq. I had such high hopes for him.

8. I just read that the Brits are pulling out 1/3 of their troops
by October. That is another slap that shrub is going to feel.

11. Impeachment takes too long
and all we would end up with is Cheney who - as hard as it is to realize - would be worse the Bush. We just need to vote the jerks out of office in 45 days. Faster, neater, more satisfying. We can go for legal indictments after we ensue they do no more harm.
