Why the campaign is so close.
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 12:21 AM by tedthebear
Who would have thought? After sooo many horrible disasters and crimes, one would think * would be roadkill by now.

The only reason swing voters will vote * is because:

1 economy: people are still riding high on the mortgage refi wave and are all driving new cars thanks to their cash outs. Greenspan's real estate bubble won't pop until well into 2005 or 2006.

2 Iraq: 1,000 dead soldiers isn't enough to make people upset. They compare it to Vietnam and decide it could be a lot worse. Plus there is no draft.

Of course us DU folks don't think like this but then we aren't the swing voters who do. The problem is most swing voters are optimists who don't think, "4 more years of * will be THAT different from what we have now." Too bad because they are wrong.

1. It is not the swing voters, it is the "undecided" ones
They will go with Kerry

They are undecided not because of bush, but because they want to know more about Kerry.

They do not LIKE BUSHY

2. My 86 year old mom is one of those who dislike *.
But she already knows she will vote for Kerry (thanks to Edwards whom she adores).

3. They're Undecided Because They Drank Too Much KoolAid to Vote Dem
Most of them are lost to us because they have been indoctrinated too
much by the repub media. They'll never vote Democratic and nothing
Kerry can say or do will change that.

The best we can hope for from them is that they stay home.

Our only hope is the "unlikely" voters.

4. By "unlikely" voters you mean the poor minorities...
...who usually don't bother to vote because they see it as pointless.

5. We are up against EVERY possible disadvantage
The right controls the government and the media and they are using to their advantage. They also milked 9/11 for as much political gain as possible. I think that we're doing pretty well considering that Bush had 70% approval ratings at one time.

6. 3. Kerry hasn't yet connected with Joe and Jane Sixpack . . .
many middle Americans see Kerry as very patrician, as opposed to the down home persona that Bush projects . . . even if they disagree with his policies, they view Bush as a "good ole boy" who is one of them and therefore understands their lives . . . the fact that this is total bullshit is a testament to the success of Rove's campaign strategy . . . how Kerry overcomes this is beyond me . . .

7. Swing voters mean nothing, pandering to them gains nothing......
.....It's the HALF THE ELIGIBLE VOTERS who don't bother to register and vote that will make the difference!

Get out there, canvas, register people and educate them!

That's what will produce the landslide this election. :)

9. Absolutely right!
The crisis in this country has a lot to do with the fact that so many eligible voters don't care enough to vote. There are HUGE gains to be made in this area.

I've been guilty of not voting in the past, when I was either just too caught up in my own life or too disgusted with politics in general, but of course I know better now. And still I meet A LOT of people who just tune it all out and won't vote.

8. The people I've talked to who intend to vote for * have this in common:
They're all simple-minded and they don't like to think about things too deeply. They just parrot GOP talking points to me, and when I easily refute one they just say "well ok, but..." and move on to the next one. They seem actually incapable of thinking about issues beyond the level of single sentence talking points.
