What did you do today to help John Kerry become president?
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 06:19 PM by zulchzulu
This should be an everyday thread.

As for me, I did some tabling with a dozen people that showed up to help without even letting me know.

We kicked ass.

1. I put four stickers on my car and drove around to show them off.
I deliberately drove by a car with "freedom isn't free" and other freeper stickers on it and just stayed where he could enjoy the good reading on my car. Small things, but makes me feel better.

2. signed in canvassers then went canvassing.
Tomorrow, sign in canvassers, Terry McAuliffe Rally and then canvassing. The rally was planned to protest Chimpy who was coming to NH, and because the rally is going to be so big, that weasel went to Kennebunkport instead of going to a Nascar race and an Appearance in Derry NH. Changed his appearance to Monday. I'm thrilled he chickened out, but damn I was really looking forward to protesting him. Next Time.

4. Good idea!!!
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 06:16 PM by p0X
Sadly, nothing yesterday or today =( ... but Thursday afternoon three of us walked around the neighborhood knocking on doors, reminding people how long they have to sign up to vote (and handing out voter registration forms to those who asked), and ensuring that people in our neighborhood knew where to go and vote (and handing out simple maps we made to our designated polling place for those who didn't).

Next time, we are going to hand out SASE with the voter registration forms which we think might help a bit.

Peace,
paris

9. good job! If you can, take their completed registration forms
yourself. Too many people just won't bother to mail them. Lots of others have difficulties with even the simplest of forms.

How'd ya find that? :D

Since I'm rather trapped at home, caring for our post-surgical horse, I'm gathering information to send to my republican brother-in-law. I have one shot to provide him with reading material that might make him consider voting for Kerry, or if not that, at least NOT voting for bush.

In February, I dragged him along to hear Wes Clark talk, and he was sold on him (!!!), so when I send the lit off to him, I'm including a photo of him at the Wes Clark event that I had signed by Wes.

I need things I can do close to home for a while. Our horse needs tending 6x/day.

57. It's Personal, That's Why...
nothing against the people of Alabama...I just had a lot of bad experiences driving across Alabama, and so I call it Ala-fucking-bama.

OK, driving thru Mobile, Ala, I got stuck in a damn flood...then, just outside Montgomery, a fucking tornado came down sixty feet in front ofmy car (and I had a U-Haul behind it, too) THEN, finally, the water pump gave out right near Auburn...right around graduation time at Auburn...the mechanic was nice enough to take me 25 miles outta town into the middle of nowhere, which waas the closest a motel roomwas to be had, because he had to get the part to fix my car, and didn't expect to have it for a couple-three days. Then,he fixed my car, and came to get me.
At any rate,it was a shit experience for me, had nothin' but trouble in Alabama, couldn't WAIT to see it in the damn rearview mirror...

Okay?

That's why I call it Ala-fucking-bama...no other reason. If I never see Alabama again, it'll be too soon!

12. Registered NINE voters
at Goodwill today, going up to a local Gay Bar later tonight to register more. That is what I did today to help John Kerry.

And in those locations, I'm FAR more likely to be getting Democrats...

Oh, and I also honked the horn and gave thumbs up to four cars today who had John Kerry or other Democratic bumper stickers...AND honked the horn and gave the bird to one who had a fucking W sticker...

14. Talked to People who saw my pin and
asked questions..passed out Kerry/Edwards stickers at my work(yet)!

I have been passing out K/E pins to people who say they will wear them.

Had an interesting conversation today with a Democratic Committee Woman from New York and she says people are mad that there haven't been any free stickers and pins coming up to New York to give out to People..In other words .."don't take New York for granted, Kerry/Edwards.

People are funny! I'm a neophyte to politics and I don't feel slighted..I just want bush the hell out. But, some people do so I hope K and E will make to New York. I don't see why they don't have time to make it to every state!

46. In York
Hey Friend! Did the Dan thing (he wasn't there, though--apparently he had a sudden need to drive to NC)

About a dozen folks came up independently from from Maryland (some who I knew as it turned out,) reinforcing about six from PA. Went door to door in the Abemarle Park area. I didn't stay for the 'tally' but we did good.

I had a good time. I met some interesting people in the course of the day-- some I just wanted to hug. All I can say by the folks I met, is that there's a lot of ordinary folks who get it and are going to vote that.

:hi:

27. Well, since this is one of my 12 hour work days.
I sold a Kerry button to the girl at the McDonalds drive thru window who noticed the one I was wearing and asked me where she could get one.

and -

upon returning with lunch to the store, saw a kick the son of a bush out bumper sticker on a customers truck. He was checking out and I commented that I liked his BS and gave him a Kerry/Edwards one to go on his truck too.

Hadn't had any customers initiate conversation about the election today. I always wear my Kerry button, but I don't harrass the customers, unless they make a comment to me first.

Not too much today, but I try to do a few little things every day.

While I was waiting while my daughter was trying on clothes at the mall, the salesgirl noticed my button and asked me where I got it. When I told her johnkerry.com, she proceeded to tell me how she had never voted before, but was going to this time because she HATES Bush! I took off my button and handed it to her. (I have more at home:)) She smiled and said "You are SO cool!" It made my day :)

34. Went to my local county Democrats meeting....
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 07:12 PM by fudge stripe cookays
volunteered to serve as our publicity person for a meet the candidates rally we're having OCtober 2nd.

We have so many new people showing up, it's amazing! (Rockwall County, Texas - 85% Repub)....but not for much longer!

Today I sat next to 2 older guys whom I hadn't met yet. One was a converted Republican. He was FULL of questions! I answered as many as I could, gave him one of reprehensor's business cards (with alternate media sources, including DU). He signed up to help with neighborhood canvassing and left with a list of addresses to hit. THAT was great to see!

Plus, I let everyone know about our second screening of "Bush Family Fortunes" with "Hijacking Catastrophe" that we're having this coming Friday evening.

Tomorrow I'll be registering voters at the Kerry booth at the Dallas Gay Pride Parade (accompanied by Fargo the Rainbow Dog in his Kerry finery)

FSC :-)

37. Registered my sister!
I was talking to my sister (a Republican) and she said she wasn't going to vote this year because she didn't support * but didn't like Kerry. She spewed out the "lesser of two evils" talking point, and I explained to her that a statement like that is thrown out to people just like her, to keep her from exercising her vote. Since moving to Florida, she hasn't even bothered to register. So I told her I would drive to her house with a voter registration form and sign her up if she PROMISED to vote for Kerry. She said, "Bring the form. You're on."

She likes their platform, but found that they are Libertarian, and that means that some are quite cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

I think she's getting sick of me talking politics all the time though. She says I remind her of a college student, thinking all this matter.

Ah, but it does.

And I spent my 41st birthday phone banking for Kerry.
