Josh Marshall explains PERFECTLY why some on the left & the right are minimizing Obama's Peace award

he the unmistakable message of the award is one of the consequences of a period in which the most powerful country in the world, the 'hyper-power' as the French have it, became the focus of destabilization and in real if limited ways lawlessness. A harsh judgment, yes. But a dark period. And Obama has begun, if fitfully and very imperfectly to many of his supporters, to steer the ship of state in a different direction. If that seems like a meager accomplishment to many of the usual Washington types it's a profound reflection of their own enablement of the Bush era and how compromised they are by it, how much they perpetuated the belief that it was 'normal history' rather than dark aberration.

4. I had an interesting conversation with
a Canadian who works at my company. He says that the Americans that don't understand why he got it are not thinking like the rest of the world. This President has given hope and vision after 8 years of wars and violence. The rest of the world sees America back on it's path towards a sort of beacon. Americans are thinking they're the only ones who should decide who should get the award and apparently, the rest of the world disagrees with us.

11. America's M$M is so ignorant and classless and to me part of the reason why we don't know what we ..
..should be knowing.

5. Yep. We, the mighty US, are no longer 'go-it aloner-ers' .
And, the world is relieved at that.

6. Agree, but Obama has done more than try to reverse the ship.
Take Cuba, nuclear nonproliferation and women for example, areas where he has laid the groundwork for reversing decades old policies and, in the case of women, facilitating the creation of a new UN agency to address women's issues.

8. Misleading header: Marshall doesn't make any comments about "the left & the right"
That's just something you added. He refers to the "superciliati", or D.C. pundits.

19. "dark aberration"
perfectly describes the era of GWB

The rest of the world sees it, even if a significant chunk of America doesn't.

20. Man - that's a GREAT assessment.
It IS a profound reflection on their own enablement of the bush era. It was a VERY dark, VERY dreadful aberration.
