Damn ! This is exciting !
Who would have thunk politics could be so exciting? :) It's like a sporting event - a thinking man's Super Bowl. People are on the edge of their seat, just waiting for the next big play. Our team has the ball - will we march it down the field?

But the stakes are much higher than the SuperBowl? Are you ready for more deaths in Iraq? Are you ready for the continued dismantling of the Social Security system? Are you ready for more lies and deception. Damn! This is exciting! Our lives are on the line. Will we live in peace or war? Will we have a job or won't we? Will we have any healhcare if we get sick? Yep..this is a real "nail-biter"...

1. My analogy would be Captain Kirk and Kahn
and the Starship Enterprise and the look on Kahn's face - YES!!!

2. I like your enthusiasm, We all should be so gung ho. It is exciting and it
is to bad is about our lives in the most basic needs. But that is what it takes to fight and get the bully out of the neighborhood.

3. The media wants it this way, too
America loves an underdog, you know...

Left or right, there's an adrenalin rush factor in media types, and they love the toss-up nature of this. They'll skew and spew, and they'll show their true colors, but EVERYONE want's to be the kingmaker, spoiler and clairvoyant, so people in and out of politics and in and out of the media are going to try every cheap shot possible to sieze the moment.

Much as the rightists want it to be a walkover, they also want their guy to seem like a giant killer, and there you have it: a shootin' match.

Expect anything.

4. Everyone I talk to says this is the election of our lifetimes.
Even my husband who protested Vietnam, says this is even more important, and he got drafted, although, thank god, 4F'd due to a really f'd up knee. This is our chance to take back our country. Go out, get involved, and when we win what sweet victory we will get to savor.

6. and while we're in the process of taking back our country
could we also take back the flag as well? I am sick and tired of being told I am un-American or un-patriotic because I am anti-Bush. The Republicans need to shown the flag is NOT a political prop to be used to incite fear. It's not a cloak to be draped on one's shoulders to hide the fact that their military service is suspect nor is it to protect slanderers who hide behind it when they defile a war hero's military service. It belongs to ALL of us, not just the Republicans.

News flash: Some of those who were killed on September 11 were democrats and some of those who are coming home from war in flag-draped coffins are Democrats. Republicans do not own patriotism and they do not own the stars and stripes.

Republicans: you are now on notice: we want our flag and our country back and on November 2, WE ARE COMING TO GET IT.

5. It's a lot better than football
Your analogy is correct. However, this is the real world. Football is just fantasy and means nothing in the big picture. The stakes are just as you described. Now, what would coach Magistrate say at this point?

Let's go get those Bush bastards!
