As of right now, the election is pretty much tied on a national basis. Even when we re-weight the bullsh!t polls, we can plainly see results within the margin of error. And most polls have Kerry leading among independent voters at this point.
The debates will be spun like all hell, and a few people in the middle will make their choice on them. Just like four years ago, when undecided idiots claimed that the candidates weren't very different and didn't offer visions for the country. The debates will reinforce existing beliefs in decideds, do nothing for many undecideds, and sway very few folks.
Then there's Fahrenheit 9/11. I am convinced that this movie can move voters in our direction.
From Moore's website:
"Newspaper after newspaper wrote stories in tones of breathless disbelief about people who called themselves 'Independents' and 'Republicans' walking out of the movie theater shaken and in tears, proclaiming that they could not, in good conscience, vote for George W. Bush.http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?messageDate=2004-07-04Also from Moore's site:
"In Pennsylvania, a Keystone poll showed that 4% of Kerry's support has come from people who decided to vote for him AFTER seeing 'Fahrenheit 9/11' -- and in an election that will be very close, 4% is a landslide. A Harris poll found that 44% of Republicans who see the film give it a 'positive' rating. Another poll, to be released this week, shows a 21-point shift in Bush's approval rating, after just one viewing of the movie, among audiences of undecideds who were shown 'Fahrenheit 9/11' in Ohio."http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?messageDate=2004-09-06We can pretty much conclude that this film does indeed succeed at changing voting habits, if this testimony is to be believed. With that knowledge now in-hand, we must act to make sure that as many people as possible see this film before Election Day. It comes out on the 5th of October. That's 27 days before the election. Even if it swings the vote 3 or 4%, that's huge.
According to Moore, at least 20 million have seen the movie. Let's show it to another hundred million before Election Day. This is going to be up to
us.
