Lets Make this Clear for everyone
Edited on Sat Oct-10-09 01:03 AM by angrychair
All of you that are trashing our president over this honor should be ashamed of yourselves. First, he didn't ask for it or desire it. All of you come across as if the honor is somehow shameful. The comments and reasoning I've seen are absurd: "Oh, he didn't end the wars yet" and "corporate DLC...blah blah blah" "he didn't walk on water" "he hasn't made us all rich, made peace on Earth and good will toward men, given us free health care and un-ending sexual pleasures" and "I didn't get a pony yet"...whatever the reason might be today. Give it a rest.

Has he been perfect? NO! What he has done is try to be a voice of reason in a very troubled world. He has tried to be a catalyst for good and has been helping people his entire life. has he fixed the world's problems? No. Name me one Nobel laureate that has achieved their ultimate effort in the same year that they received their award? Or the year before or the year before or the year before. Did Bishop Tutu? No. Did Jimmy Carter? No. Did Woodrow Wilson? No. He is working toward a positive change in our world and change takes time. He may not even get there. That is NOT the point of what he is doing OR the Nobel honor, it is the desire, the effort and the work toward a better world that matters.

My favorite and often used one is the "He hasn't ended the wars yet". Will he? Not anytime soon. Did you honestly expect that he could or would yet? If you did, than you haven't been paying attention over the last two years.
Iraq is going to take time and no matter what he does, Iraq is never going to be the country we want it to be. It will end up being the country its people want it to be. If they end up being an ally or an enemy is still working itself out. I doubt the Iraq of today will even exist 10 years from now.
What about ending the war in Afghanistan? He NEVER said he would end the war in Afghanistan, in fact he has ALWAYS said the opposite. A just cause in a evil country is not a war without meaning. I don't understand these type of people and their reasoning on Afghanistan. Would you have left Hitler to go unchecked across Europe? Left the Japanese empire to ravage Asia without a word? Afghanistan was ruled by evil men that paid for their empire with the drug money from exporting untold amounts of poppy and raw hash to Asia that made its way to our streets to kill far more than have died in Afghanistan or Iraq. They tortured, raped and humiliated the women and female children of their population. Top off that with their pre-9/11 support and protection of AQ camps all over the country as well as their cause and you have a real hellhole there. NO ONE likes war but these bad guys are the real deal and if we don't do it, who? If not now, when? Obama is trying to be a force for good, he is not perfect but he is giving his best effort and I think that effort is genuine. Give the man the respect and chance he deserves.

2. I would drop the bossy tone if I were you.
It doesn't accomplish anything other than inviting smack downs on DU.

wasn't my intent to come across as "bossy" I was going for "holier-than-thou" indignation. I despise the disrespect and very un-Democrat like attitude toward our president and this amazing recognition of his efforts.

Again, though, thank you for the advice :)
