though even I can't get much of a feel from living here. At this point in 2000 gore ran away with NJ. Kerry shouldn't be having this much trouble keeping it safe. It's unfathomable really.

11. Democrats not visible in NJ

As I drive around Monmouth county, I see signs of Republican organization everywhere from lawn signs for Bush and Cheney and from congressional candidates. The NJ GOP have also put out charming little signs saying Democrats = Corruption.

Except for the folks who've made the effort to purchase their own Kerry signs, the Democrats have no visible presence. It is rather disheartening.

Jim McGreevey, I think, has hurt the party--not because of the fact that he's gay but because he, with the most incredible stupidity imaginable, appointed the object of his affection to a $100,000 + a year job as head of homeland security, a job for which he was manifestly unqualified. In addition, one of his top fund raisers has been caught putting the strong arm on a guy who needed some government help and added together it don't look good.

Finally, the perception that Bush is stronger in defending the country against terrorism, as preposterous as it seems to me, probably has some pull here. Especially in my area, nearly everyone knows someone who was personally effected by 9/11.

On the other hand, the economy is not good--alot of people are being laid off in the high tech sectors. A great many people here despise Bush. I think Kerry will still win here but it's no longer a given as it was before.

Geez, remember what happened after the RNC? "10 point bounce! We're dooomed!" Yeah where's that bounce now? Where it always was, only in the wet dreams of Bush. Gee whiz, get over it people. We have more important things to worry about than what some idiotic SKEWED poll has to say. Here is the basic fact: Bush's main constituency is made up of White, Protestant, Males. Wherever they are, Bush might win. But in large cities with a diverse population? Nah. The Freepers are also saying NY is in play. Riiight...the RNC had so many supporters. That's why they ran 2 seconds after Bush gave his speech. :eyes:

and since then the 9/11 Jersey widows have come out for Kerry. Also, I think the controversy with Gov. McGreevey may have hurt Dems in general, but NJ will be (Knock on wood) Democratic blue in November.
