Since the Swine Flu was declared a national emergency
Shouldn't it be available free of charge to everyone?

What about all those without insurance and unemployed?

8. It does cost money in some places ($25), but I assumed that was
payment to have staff to administer it.

9. Free H1N1 vaccine clinics are being put on by the state of CA
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 02:34 PM by kestrel91316
for uninsured and high-risk people. Your own state may or may not give a damn about public health, but we sure do here.

I am probably going to wind up getting it at a local pharmacy and paying $25 for their employee time. Gladly.

17. Do you know
where one can get the vaccine in CA? Is there a list of places it is available? Any information would be appreciated. Wanna get it for my five and three year old. :)

CA Dept of Public Health flu shot locator page:
http://www.cdph.ca.gov/HealthInfo/discond/Pages/H1N1VaccineLocations.aspx
They are having free clinics starting this weekend. I will wait until the injection is available and get it at my Walgreen's like I did the seasonal flu shot - they charge $25.

19. This is the first weekend the H1N1 has been available, I think.
It's still in short supply, so I am waiting until the high risk people (children, chronically ill, pregnant) have had a chance to get it before I go for mine.

23. the testing was reporting something like 90%+ cases were H1N1
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 06:40 PM by northernlights
and it's before the seasonal flu season. So testing was deemed an unecessary burden at this point -- they simply assume H1N1.

22. as far as I know, the flu is free of charge and freely available
so I'm not sure what your beef is.

If you meant the vaccine, there isn't enough to go around anyway. It will go to healthcare providers first, as it should since 1. they are exposed the most and 2. if they get sick there's nobody to do the caretaking.

There are places trying to get it low-cost (the university where I'm a student and my employer are both trying to get it for students/employees at about $10/ea) but it simply is not available.
