Question about Bush Rallies & Social Security Numbers.
today on AAR "Unfiltered" Sue Niederer (the mother of Seth Dvorin who was killed in Iraq)
said she had a ticket to attend the Bush event, she went to the local Republican Party office & gave her name and SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER & obtained a ticket!

My question-
Is this legal?
(I heard about a local Bush supporter who gave her SS # to get into an event)

from-
http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs10-ssn.htm

Am I required to give my Social Security number to government agencies?

It depends upon the agency. Some government agencies, including tax authorities, welfare offices and state Departments of Motor Vehicles, can require your Social Security number as mandated by federal law (42 USC 405 (c)(2)(C)(v) and (i)). Others may request the SSN in such a manner that you are led to believe you must provide it.

The Privacy Act of 1974 requires all government agencies -- federal, state and local -- that request SSNs to provide a "disclosure" statement on the form. The statement explains if you are required to provide your Social Security number or if it is optional, how the SSN will be used, and under what statutory or other authority the number is requested (5 USC 552a, note). The U.S. Office of Management and Budget, Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) provides guidance and oversight regarding the Privacy Act of 1974. The text of the Privacy Act can be found at the website www.usdoj.gov/foia/privstat.htm.

Where does it say the Republican Party is entitled to your SS #?

1. If they're throwing the party, they can ask for whatever they want
if I'm not mistaken.

2. I received an invite to a Republican dinner
Laura was attending as the guest of honor. On the RSVP, I was supposed to include my SS#. Of course, I would've also had to have come up with $15k to attend, but that is a whole 'nother story.

4. do NOT give your SS# to ANYONE!
except for reporting income for income tax purposes and when you file for Social Security.

If anyone else asks you, you can refuse to give it. They may refuse to do business with you but you are not required to give it to them.

5. I was in the NAACP choir back in 1990's...
And if you were going to sing on the day Bill Clinton was there, you had to provide them with your name and social security number.

Then he came through and did the thing where he talked to everyone and it was then you could even shake his hand. No one had to give names.

6. Any one who does not like Bush is put out of sight. for the news.
I am sure Bush's temper could not take it from what you read but this looks so good on TV. Every one loves him. He does not hardly go near the WH any more even after he has it behind bars. I guess he liked it how Saddam stayed in an new place every night. We have one strange President.

8. That's funny--I remember during the 2000 campaign
it was reported that *Bush had trouble sleeping in any bed but his own and that he carried his own pillow with him everywhere. But you're right. I read that he was away from the WH for about 6 weeks beginning in early August. Not that he was there much before that either, probably (I don't track his movements--just an impression). You'd think he'd want to at least give the impression that he's doing "the people's business." (HAH!)
