It's Bill's show, but that just pissed me off. Clearly he hadn't been listening to Kerry this week.

PJ O'Rourke claims that Kerry "faked this stuff"," i.e., the memos and Maher goes right along with the riff as if this is true.

This show is usually pretty good, but tonight it seems to be one big Bash Kerry Fest.

21. Question...
Do you really care what these people think? For years I've listened to the pundits bash Clinton and now Kerry and it finally occurred to me that no one is listening to them. As I've said before, they are so sanctimonious, so self-serving, and so impressed with the garbage that comes out of their mouths that they have become caricatures. They isolate themselves from the rest of the country, yet, insist that they have their fingers on the pulse of America. Instead of hanging on to every piece of nonsense that they spew, don't watch, I promise you'll feel better.

Makes You Wonder What CNNs' raw feeds look like. I remember way back when my aunt an uncle had a c-band satellite. There was a station that was nothing but raw news feeds. It was some crazy stuff. I was there the 4th of July weekend that we shot down that Iranian Airliner in the Gulf. It was horrific. Too bad we cant get that kind of news today... then we could really decide.

40. Bill Maher proves his worth(lessness).
I'm getting really bored with the nationwide Kerry bashing. We he tries to explain what he plans as president, he's accused of being all over the map. If his sticks to one subject for more than a single day, he's accused of not explaining what he's going to do as president. If he attacks, he's desperate and if he doesn't he's accused of being weak. If he's down if the polls, his campaign is in disarray. If he's up, it's a flawed poll. If Kerry is not president-elect Kerry on Nov. 3, we can rest assured that the fourth estate, along with Maher and company helped make it happen. And if we loose this one, there's no doubt that the dems will be much further marginalized than today.

above..this is a Grassroots Org and People all over the Country are liking what they hear..

I've had many positive reactions to Kerry today from People who think...

One woman told me that an Episcapalian(sp?) Minister asked her where he could get one of those Kerry/Edwards pins I gave her because he was a republican but he's voting for Kerry!

A gave a nurse downstairs a Kerry/Edwards bumpersticker today that she had asked yesterday .."where she could get one"..It turns out I went to work today and someone had brought a stack in for whomever.

One customer at work told me he hadn't voted since 1964 when he voted for rockefellar and he made such a mess in NY that he vowed never to vote again! "This is different", he said.."I'm going to vote for Kerry!"

59. OK, flame me
It wasn't a bad show, but not one of Bill's better ones.

P.J. O'Rourke is one of the better conservative pundits/writers out there. The man has written some funny books, though I agree with little of what he writes about. He's just a smarmy Reagan Republican. He was kinda dorky tonight, though. Tried too hard to play the stereotypical Republican, but I just can't believe he has a whole basement full of assault weapons, like he claimed. One of the few times I've actually seen him on TV.

Cornell West was terrible. Sounded like a babbling idiot. Tried to act too smart and went way over everyone's heads. Disappointing, since I've heard how smart the guy is.

Julie Delpy was good when she actually talked. She was spot-on about Iraq and how a real man is not one that starts a war, but one who finishes it. I was impressed. But she didn't talk much.

Bill's monologue and his interviews with Kitty and Christianne were very good. And I give him credit in that he seemed to carry the entire weight of the show while Cornell went into some drug-enduced stupor and Julie didn't know when to open her mouth. P.J. was hamming it up too much and was somewhat incoherent in parts.

I actually understood some of what they said about Kerry. Granted, our so-called 'liberal media' does a terrible job of covering him, but our short attention span society isn't getting his message, at least not as well as we at DU do. Gotta remember - most people aren't as enlightened about what's going on like we are.

Bill had some good rants about pharmaceuticals and greed in America.

Overall, not a great show, but not a bad one. Cornell West is terrible, and needs to sober up and get out of the sixties. I imagine P.J. would have actually been entertaining if he had an effective communicator to spar with (though he'd still be mouthing stupid GOP bullshit). But nobody seemed to gel. Not a lot of conflict and personality melding.

Okay, you may flame me now.

she barely talked. West seemed kinda 'out there' and PJ was just an ass and not funny at all. there was lots of awkward silence. it even made me uncomfortable and you could see that Bill was too. His show needs at least one great guest to be worth watching. tonite had 2 bad ones and 1 ok one.

Kitty's interview seemed to lack rhythm and Christianne interview was alright.

61. mostly agree, but NOT about PJO
I've read several of his books, til I realized how increasingly RW he'd been getting

AND unfunny

that's the key

he is NOT funny; wasn't really that funny back in the old Lampoon days....people then didn't like him.....ask Tony Hendra, who IS funny, still, except when flacking his new book

I've seen him on TV, and, not only is he NOT funny, he repeats the SAME unfunny crap over and over, showing how uncreative he is.

he's like Dennis Miller, trying to make fun of those out of power

it's really that simple

what must it have been like to be the court jester to Attila the Hun?

63. P.J. O'Rourke wrote for the National Lampoon into the 70's. . . .
. . .and was THEN funny. He is NO LONGER FUNNY! He is a self-satisfied, ass-licking republican PRICK, and,(need I repeat?)NO LONGER FUNNY! I think the viagra/aids comment is typical of his idea of humor. End of Rant. Sorry! As a 60's guy I feel VERY betrayed by assholes like that.

68. Wasn't he always a Republican?

The AIDS joke was crass, but it was kinda funny because that's what I expect from a guy like him. As long as you don't take it seriously, it was funny in the proper frame of things. I do like tasteless humor once in a while.

I get the feeling that O'Rourke's whole Republican thing is just a schtick. He seems to be working overtime to put over his asshole bit. He doesn't sell himself well on TV, though his books are better than most of the conservative fare out there (if you can call that a compliment).

the fact that he got blacklisted by idiotic conservatives doesnt make him a genius. He spouts a lot of GOP spin as facts. But when he is right he sure is right, and funny too.

67. One thing I like about Maher
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 12:58 AM by RatTerrier
Is that he's not a partisan cheerleader. There's plenty of people who do just that for one side or the other. I like a guy who just speaks his mind, without worrying which demographic of his audience he's gonna piss off.

And just because he rips on Kerry once in a while does not make him a GOP whore. He calls it as he sees it. I don't agree with all of his opinions (especially the Kerry one) but at least he explains his reasons. I do agree with his assessment that the 1971 Kerry would be more of a powerhouse than the 2004 version.

Maher is no media whore, and he even lost his ABC show because he didn't fall in line following 9/11 and said some unpopular things that were not exactly 'patriotically correct'. People demanded his head on a stick and he refused to back down. I respect that.

He says what he wants, and while some of it is pretty over the top, a lot of is hilarious and often tastelessly funny. Believe me, he is not a Republican stooge. Far from it.

65. Maher should NOT have let him get away with the Kerry/Memos bullshit.
I'm very dissapointed in him. I may write a letter, others should too.
