" While Democrats were touting AARP's endorsement...
Edited on Thu Nov-05-09 02:24 PM by jenmito
..via Matthew Yglesias, this image of Holocaust victims was on display at today's "House Call" protest organized by Michele Bachmann and the Republican House Leadership:

Take a closer look:

Keep in mind that this wasn't some Glenn Beck-organized 9/12 stunt. This was an event staged by the House Republican leadership -- actual elected officials, members of the U.S. government.

Other Republican members of Congress were on stage, too: Minority Leader John Boehner (OH), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (VA), Roy Blunt (MO), Jeb Hensarling (TX), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA), Michele Bachmann (MN) -- who was a key organizer of the event -- Virginia Foxx (NC), Ginny Brown-Waite (FL), Jean Schmidt (OH), Sue Myrick (NC), and many more.

If Republicans wonder why most Americans view them as part of the fringe extreme, they need not look beyond this event. While Democrats were touting the endorsement of AARP, Michele Bachmann and the House leadership were rallying amidst signs like this, shoulder to shoulder with 2,000 teabaggers."

Update: The AMA also endorsed the House bill today.

1. More like the AMA damned the bill with faint praise
They're still opposed to any form of public option - but since the one in the House bill is so watered-down that most Americans can't even access it, they probably decided not to pick a fight.

Some prominent Jewish organizations need to get REALLY vocal, really soon. I'll join my voice with theirs.

And they BETTER NOT pull that "well those were liberal plants at the rally with those signs" shit.

Edited on Thu Nov-05-09 02:20 PM by FrenchieCat
Too bad the media won't report this in the way that it should,
if we lived in a society where the Press wasn't bought and paid for
by the same folks who endorse this kind of imagery to be used
no matter that the cause being protested has nothing to do with
the tragic events that occurred and evidenced by this photo.

This is an outrage......
Not only for those who survived as well as those who perished under the butchery of Hitler,
but to all of us!

This should not stand without consequences!

showing pics of the Holocaust, saying, "Get the red out of the White House," and much worse. Cantor said he doesn't approve personal attacks, but the "tens of thousands of protestors" outside the WH prove the people don't want "Obama/Pelosicare" healthcare reform.

30. I grew up with Surviors in my neighborhood in NYC when I
was a kid. I can recall going to the Candy Store and seeing the tattooed arms of thin men making change. I knew some of these people and as we grew older, they would start to speak about what they had gone through...not what they had seen, but actually gone through. Synagogues were filled with Survivors and their children; I'm not Jewish, but I learned to respect their Sabbath.

Many years ago, my father was speaking w/the next door neighbor, (my dad was a lawyer and like w/doc's, people want some free advice...;) ). Anyway, I found out later that our neighbor survived Dachau and was the last of his line left, or so he thought...he was reunited with his wife, who was scheduled to go the the Gas Chamber the same day that one of the other camps was suddenly evacuated by the Germans and they were left alone, standing there, naked in the rain...when my dad's jeep found them...she was among them. He spoke of it only once...but that was enough.

I stand up and shout to the world...NEVER AGAIN!

It seems so incredibly disgusting to basically spit on what these people went through and use it for their own horrible propaganda.
I am not Jewish either but just impacted by the films and things we talked about in school. I grew up in the 80's and even by then, the Holocaust was mentioned and taught to us as something sacred and something we wanted to prevent happening again. My family is actually very German and very Italian but most of them were in America by WW II and totally against the Nazis.

38. I do recall they were very quiet...
reflective, occasionally jumpy, but never threatening. They all seemed small to me as well...a kind of "permanent thinness" if that is possible; the kids all grew up like regular NY'ers born in the late 40's early 50's.

I honestly believe a lot of them made it through just by faith alone. Somehow, they found the strength to go on, just stay alive.

Eisenhower actually gave orders to the US Army Signal Corps to record all they could. Initially, it was thought "best" to keep this as quiet as possible to avoid reprisals against German nationals. Ike was smart about what he did next, he just overrode everyone else and ordered the Sig Corps to film. Later, he told people that he believed this would happen again if the horror were not recorded, people would say, "that could never have happened"...the Deniers have proven he was right.

22. Nothing is sacred to these miserable thugs...
Monsters like this don't have any decency at all about them.

For one thing, in the top pic, I saw at least 4 people either on or pretty close to being on Medicare...I have to wonder if they think they hit 65, they are suddenly shipped off to some Coal Fired Electrical Plant here in Nebraska...their bodies used to light the Midwest on cool Autumn evenings.

For another...no one seems to understand the insurance industry at all, or how the whole thing works. Essentially, it is a group of many that have pooled their resources to help a relatively few, hence profit is made.

The whole "bureaucrat" issue is moot as well. Right this minute, people with no medical training are denying claims...from private industry, (it's about money, not care; Insurance Co's have more Accountants than anything else).

Finally...if one is paying $400/month today, their employer is paying $500/mo for the care they get, if both the employer and worker could save, say $150/mo for an option that is basically government run, but no care would be denied because of pre-existing conditions or non-essential cosmetics; they could have the same health provider they have now, same level of care...but a savings that totals out to $300, it works out well for everyone.

Reprehensible. This is not a mere invocation of the events, this is the actual use of the dead, the co-option of images of murdered corpses as a tool of their personal agendas. Carried through the streets as if each body were nothing but a letter in some phrase of partisan propaganda.

Did anyone in Congress take American History in HS? I think I had read both the Declaration Of Independence and the Constitution by the middle of the 5th Grade in the NYC Public School System...waaaaayyyy back. Even then, I knew the difference between the two Documents. Today, I have a copy of the DoI and First 12, (whittled down to 10), Amendments. I can move my eyes 3 degrees up, and there they are...had them for years now. Boehner can't even glance down and realize that he's reading fro the DoI.

46. Nazi-Democrat Analogies Leaves Jewish Groups Alarmed
(a huffpost from 3 weeks ago by sam stein)

According to Harris, there have been roughly 50 instances in the past few months where either a media personality or politician manufactured a Nazi analogy or Holocaust reference to push a point.

The list includes some Democrats, notably Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) who apologized to the ADL for describing the health care situation as a "holocaust in America." And, below the surface, it has been exacerbated by followers of Lyndon LaRouche, who routinely pass out pamphlets comparing President Obama to Hitler.

But the vast majority of instances, as a review of recent of recent news clips shows, have been offered by Republican or conservative figures targeting the president or Democrats.

For groups like ADL and NJDC, however, the offense doesn't always come when a group or individual makes the direct Nazi comparison but rather when groups or individuals don't speak out against someone else making it. Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), for instance, did not push back against a town hall questioner who said that Obama like Hitler believed in a "superior race" (in the president's case: Congress). Few representatives, moreover, have spoken out against the proliferation of swastikas at health care town halls or tea party protests.

"We have heard nothing from leading Republicans," said Harris. "We hear nothing from the Republican Jewish Coalition. We hear nothing from candidates. We hear nothing from Eric Cantor" - the lone Jewish Republican in the House of Representatives.

47. Do These People Get ALL The Attention Because They Are KOOKS OR
do they get ALL this attention because the media wants them to LOOK like KOOKS??

I'm truly conflicted by this because they seem to get ALL the attention ALL the time! While those of us here want HCR, we beat our heads against an imaginary wall and site what are seemingly true facts, for the most part and simply get ignored!

I KNOW, they LOST 23, but they have REAL Representatives standing WITH them, and even with all of our donations to Michele Bachman's opponent she STILL got elected!

Is UP down and DOWN up?? Is the media actually HELPING them? Every time they hold some sort of "get-together" the cameras are there rolling. Democrats can pull together hundreds of thousands of people in a march and it "barely" makes a few seconds on the TV! I recall going to marches and waiting anxiously to see that "we" wanted our voices heard, and even C-Span didn't give it more than perhaps TWO MINUTES!

Are we behind the curve, or should we mount something against them? I mean not sarcasm here, I'm just wondering.

I'm going for a walk because tonight it's actually gotten cool down here in Florida and maybe I can re-charge my engines! My dogs await, but I still wonder!!!
