Elizabeth Edwards Discusses Military At Campaign Stop

UPDATED: 7:25 pm EDT September 16, 2004

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Sen. John Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, returned Thursday to North Carolina to campaign for the Kerry-Edwards ticket.

Edwards spoke at the VFW in Fayetteville to discuss issues in the campaign, especially when it comes to the military.

"I think we've found time after time where this president has failed to meet the needs of our military. He hasn't been on their side, hasn't made meeting their needs a priority. Sen. Kerry would make meeting those needs a priority," Edwards said.

Edwards said John Kerry would get U.S. troops home sooner by getting NATO involved and transferring more power to the Iraqi people. She plans to discuss the war and other topics Friday in Greenville and Winston-Salem.

1. Her father was an Air Force pilot (as in, showed up for duty, and
learned to fly, and completed his obligation, and more).

Those are her people.

5. Navy background and story
Found these stories, pasted together:

(Her father) attended the University of Pittsburgh, playing an offensive and defensive end on the football team, until he transferred
to the U.S. Naval Academy" in Annapolis, Maryland in 1942. (Elizabeth Edwards was named after her mother, Elizabeth Anania, 80, also the daughter of a Navy pilot.) Vincent Anania served 32 years in the Navy and retired as a captain. He received numerous medals, including the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross, the highest peacetime flying award for an act of heroism. Vince Anania was flying the VQ-1 P4M-1Q Martin Mercator PR-9 when it was attacked by MiGs, while he was doing reconnaisance over or near communist airspace in the late 50's. The MiGs shot and severely damaged his plane, but he managed to land safely back in Japan after flying just 12 feet above the Dea of Japan.

Kick for our EE!
Saw her on Olbermann and she wowed him in a 2 part interview.
Her honesty and straight talk is a great asset to the team KE.
