New organization pokes fun at Kerry’s football fumbles
http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/news/archive/local_17832279.shtml

Two Washington-based lawyers supporting President Bush’s re-election have registered an advocacy group, Football Fans for Truth, as a Section 527 organization allowed to accept unlimited political donations. They plan to publicize Kerry’s recent sports misstatements such as his reference to the home of the Green Bay Packers as “Lambert Field” instead of Lambeau Field.

>snip<

Lawyers Jeff Larroca and Dino Panagopoulos, both members of the law firm Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, said in a conference call Wednesday they have no plans to raise large amounts of cash. Instead, they hope to get free publicity from sports talk radio and other media. “Our goal is to basically find ways to get out the political humor about John Kerry’s unsuitability to be sportsman-in-chief,” Larroca said.

>snip<

Larroca and Panagopoulos characterized Kerry as a “sports poser” who said his favorite Boston Red Sox player was someone never on the team.
“Some people like the fact that he is an avid dove hunter,” Larroca said.

Asked about their involvement in the Bush campaign, they would only say, “We both have yard signs.”

>snip<

Meanwhile, the Bush campaign has played up its tenuous affinity to the Packers with Wisconsin voters.

Last week Vice President Dick Cheney visited Green Bay, Sheboygan and Milwaukee with former Packers quarterback Bart Starr. In Green Bay, Cheney pointed out he worked 38 years ago for then-Wisconsin Gov. Warren Knowles. “And one of the privileges of working for the governor was he was a great Packer fan,” Cheney said. “And we used to catch football games.”

7. What's wrong with being a male cheerleader?
I'm about as big of a sports fanatic as you'll find. And I played a lot of sports, just not any winter sports, so I was a cheerleader for basketball.

2. Do you think this flub of Kerry's is more serious than
Rumsfeld confusing Saddam with Osama twice in a speech last week ?
No one is going to die because Kerry mispronounced Lambeau field.

3. This is not innocent fun...
.. Remember where this started, folks! The wife of a Tom DeLay staffer wrote the first salvo in this inane sports war against Kerry. This is NOT some silly little thing.. Washington Lawyers?? Really? WHoda thunk it? I'm sure they have their filthy little hands in all of Bush's campaign slime. Assbites

5. Packer fans are serious about football
I doubt this will have any effect on Kerry, but don't mess with the Packer fans when it comes to football. Lambert field is a great place to catch an NFL game.

6. Lambert Field is a great place to catch a flight
Since that's the name of our airport in St. Louis, where Kerry has flown in and out of a bunch of times recently. Simple slip of the tongue.

10. now that makes sense
I said I was going to Harrisonburg today and I meant Harrisburg, it happens and it was Bush not Kerry who traded a 500 home run club winner :).

9. Most of them don't know about the flub
They are too busy reading about their team. Living in the heart of Packerland this is not regeristing except on a Freepers talking point sheet.

18. The timing of the article is suspicious
This item appeared in the Green Bay Press-Gazette today, the day after Kerry's HUGE turnout in Madison.

I don't necessarily see it as a big deal, since it got VERY LITTLE COVERAGE when he said it in August. It's just interesting how these little groups keep popping up at "convenient" times.

11. I'm starting a new organization, too.
English-Speakers for Truth.

We will publicize Bush's misstatements about everything.

I am also thinking of forming Connecticut Yankees for Truth.

We will publicize Bush's Yankee roots, along with the fact that he is the only member of his family to put on a Texas drawl.

Perhaps Drivers for Truth would be a good idea. We can discuss reasons no one should get in a car with George or Laura.

Finally, I do believe there is a need for Healthy Inner Ears for Truth. We will discuss George Bush's difficulties in maintaining his balance and keeping himself upright, as evidenced by his falling off of bicycles, helicopter stairs, Segways, and pretzels.

It is extremely important to cover these issues and stop focusing on trivia such as the economy or Iraqnam.

14. If someone cares more about sports than Bush's incompetence on 9/11
Then they really deserve to live in a fascist dictatorship. So fuck them.

17. the REAL battlefield is not a football stadium
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 04:01 PM by welshTerrier2
if mr. bush wants to focus on such nonsense instead of the damage he's done in Iraq, that's his right ... but Kerry needs to issue a crisp and clear message stating that the debate will be on the REAL issues, not on idiotic distractions ...

it's clear mr. bush will focus on anything other than his actual record ... more than 1000 dead Americans ... more than 6000 critically injured Americans whose lives will never be the same ... countless dead INNOCENT (i.e. non-fighting) Iraqis ... mr. bush repeatedly confuses Iraq and Iran ... mr. rumsfeld completely confuses bin Laden with Saddam Hussein ...

this election is a not a game of "gotcha" ... our nation is still at war with no end in sight and mr. bush wants to play ha-ha games with the names of football stadiums ... mr. kerry is not looking for a sportscaster job; he wants to bring our troops home safely and restore American prestige in the world ...

20. How do they know he misspoke?
Many people pronounce Lambeau so that it sounds very similar to Lambert. Ok, maybe the Packers say Lam-bo, but this is getting to be a really, really silly splitting of hairs.

21. It happened in a backyard gathering in Green Bay in August
the local media gave it a pass - a simple mis-statement. But thanks to Cheney and slime-ball tactics, it's now an "issue." Cheney made the snide comment at a recent stop in GB last week, gratuitously flaunting Bart Starr (I'm so disappointed).

The mayor of Madison jibed back at Kerry's rally yesterday saying "Dick Cheney has re-visited the sight of his last deferment."

They really love the Pack. It's crazy and a great time. I've never eaten so much sausage. Great cheese too. And Old Millwaukee beer.
