Nonpartisan Analysis Unmasks the Ugly Truth
Nonpartisan Analysis Unmasks the Ugly Truth: the Networks are 'Owned' by the White House
This clear "at a glance" chart reveals the outrageous - in fact, anti-American - derailment of fair news coverage during one of the most critical elections in US history. The chart is not based on opinion - it is based on ACTUAL statements recorded during the course of news programs. It is a sad day from the American free press with its once-proud tradition of independence and quest for the truth that it has come to this. The irresponsibility of the media has so far led us into a bloody, pointless war. It is now is using all its resources to try to railroad Americans into reelecting a man who will most surely lead us into more bloody, pointless wars, while undermining the very principles upon which our great nation is based.

NBC positive on Bush during RNC; Fox most critical of Kerry
The media coverage of the Republican National Convention resulted in an overall improvement in George W. Bush’s media image, while Kerry received continuous criticism from the networks news broadcasts as well as Fox News.

From August 30 to September 9, the of coverage of George W. Bush improved in tone, compared to the past weeks. On NBC, Bush received the most positive coverage, with the share of positive reports exceeding the share of negative reports by almost 14%. On Fox and ABC, the coverage of Bush was also overall positive, with shares of 7% and 1% more positive than negative reports respectively.
Meanwhile, Kerry received overall negative coverage in all analyzed media, particularly on Fox's Special Report with Brit Hume, which presented 40% more negative than positive reports on him.

The Special Report with Brit Hume was chosen for this study for featuring more political coverage than other shows with a similar time frame.

Every week Media Tenor issues its Slant-o-meter, comparing the tone of coverage of George W. Bush and John F. Kerry in TV networks and other media in the past week. Presented in a single chart, it shows the difference between the share of positive and negative statements on Bush and Kerry. The Slant-o-meter allows the public to differentiate how each media presented the candidates in a more positive or negative way according to very precise criteria. Media Tenor is monitoring and analyzing the media coverage of the presidential elections. The aim of the research is to highlight trends and tendencies of reporting in U.S. media, particularly broadcast news programs.

How a Subject is Rated as "positive" or "negative"
The overall ratings (positive/neutral/negative) are determined by the content of the text and words used by the journalist in the article - according to very strict criteria that don't allow the analyst to infuse personal opinions or judgment into the analysis. The ratings are derived from the combination of context (when the content is embedded in positive or negative context) and explicit ratings (when the journalist uses or cites words of clearly positive or negative judgment).

Accuracy
With a 90% accuracy, Media Tenor’s inter-coder reliability (accuracy of data) is above the industry norm, minimizing the potential effect of personal opinion on the data. Drawing qualitative conclusions based on a scientific base of quantitative information, Media Tenor’s research in the fields of agenda setting, agenda cutting and agenda surfing is recognized internationally as one of the most transparent and reliable.

1. thanks for this
did you see Kitty Kelley talk about the relentless pressure put on by the WH to keep her off the air, both on radio and TV?

Larry King, for example, has had her on innumerable times, including for the release of EVERY single book she's written

guess what happened this time

she also mentioned the fact that the head of NBC news, or whatever....said his name, was called by somebody from the WH and warned NOT to have her on
