Kerry: This Is No Time to Channel Al Gore (you aint gonna like this one)
But I am gonna post it anyway...
Some LA Times columnist named Lopez. Some excerpts:

>>>>>>>>>>>
...

He lost precious weeks foolishly defending his Purple Hearts, for crying out loud, even though Bush was one step removed from flying model airplanes during the Vietnam War.

...

It's one fat home-run pitch after another. Kerry knocks a two-bagger now and then, but often fails to get the bat off his shoulder. He's too busy looking for a sign from the third base coach, and to make matters worse, he hires a new one every other day.

...

Republicans, on the other hand, are much more cunning. Bible-toters don't have anything in common with social moderates in the GOP, but they all come together when they have to and rally around meaningless slogans.
...

"What you ought to be doing — and what everybody in America ought to be doing — today is not asking me," Kerry said. "They ought to be asking the president: What is your plan?" Even if he'd tried, Kerry could not have come up with a more harebrained answer. All he had to say is that he foolishly bought into the president's justification for war, and soon as possible, he'll get us out of that mess and fight a true war against actual terrorists.

3. OK, Kerry has bumbled his way along
And with six weeks to election day he is tied with the nitwit in every poll except Gallup. I'd say the campaign has not quite reached the apocalyptic stage yet.

5. I am not saying all is lost
I am just saying that sacarsm and ridicule should be given a more prominent place in the Kerry campaign. Now you tell me that Edwards made megamillions in the courtroom without resorting to sarcasm and ridicule?

USE IT!

4. I kinda agree. Somebody should study how Reagan cratered Carter in 1980.
Reagan was a big alternative to Carter, and everybody went with him.

I don't know, we'll have to see how the rest of this campaign plays out.

9. Dean was the better choice...
for exactly the reason you state. He offered the complete opposite of the shrub. With Kerry-- well, he tries to hard to appear palatable to the warhawks on the right.

10. In that respect, I agree with you
although Dean is a cryptoRightWinger, as evidenced by his derogatory comments directed towards the Left, back when he was gov of VT.

But he definitely would have presented lots of sarcastic, colloquial, mediagenic comments ridiculing Bush.

6. I agree, but
can we also focus on how it looks like Kerry is getting his mojo now?

I've been a harsh critic of Kerry's, but I am very encouraged by the tone and message of his speeches over the past couple days.

I'm focusing on that as long as he keeps it up.

8. I'm just saying Kerry needs to take a more colloquial, sarcastic tone
He needs more sarcatic one liners. THat is what makes it to the news soundbite stage.

11. I wish he would channel Gore
It was a little much when Gore was constantly tossing out populist slogans ("I'll fight for YOU!"), but I thought his campaign was ok. And Al Gore focused on current issues, instead of focusing on what happened in 1969.

I'm voting for Kerry only because he's ABB.

12. Listen people, I don't know how many times you have to be told this.
The article makes the point that the Repubs do well because people who have nothing in common come together for the sole purpose of electing Bush. Bush is not impressive in all manners to all of them, but they all support him. Point being, YOU are the problem, not Kerry. He is busting his butt all day and you believe the RW media spin on him.

Also, let me just say about this "shake-up" stuff and Kerry losing his way...Mary Beth cahill was the campaign manager before the shake-up. Who is it now? The Repubs are dumb enough to fall for this old game. Don't be yourself.
