Poll question: Who thinks "Horse race Polls" should be banned 30 days before election?
I don't mean "issues" polls which ask people what issues they feel are most important, ect, but polls which ask folks who they favor in a election, whether presidential, senate, gov, house, ect? I tend to think these polls are counter productive and actually keep turnout down.

Your thoughts? (I think I just did a push-poll!!)

1. Polls can be very useful, if kept in the proper context
Unfortunately, in recent elections, the poll-hype has gotten out of hand. Perhaps this latest Gallup joke poll, when combined with Gallup's nonsensical bouncing around back in 2000, will wake up the press and cause them to back off on pushing polls every day for months before an election.

2. How do you ban MY poll??
On my little website? Send Ashcroft's thugs after me?

(Just making a point...If you can't ban my little meaningless poll, you can't ban real ones. ;) )

3. No, We have the right to know.
I'm also in favor of publishing exit poll data on election day.

One of my biggest pet peeves is that we have turned elections into sporting events. "I want to vote for a winner." But censoring polls won't change this attitude.

Maybe more money for secondary eductaion?

4. I voted no, and this is why
In some countries (and occasionally in this one) voters face great obsticles when trying to vote, either through voter intimidation, distant polling locations, and after the vote, rampant election fraud. If people in this country can't find the time to vote simply because of what some poll said might be the expected result, then I would at least question whether they are truly dedicated to the concept of the democratic system (yeah, yeah, I know it's a representative republic). It is every persons right to vote their conscience, or to not vote if that's what their conscience dictates, but apathy and futility, in my opinion, are truly the most pathetic reasons not to vote. I believe that polling is useless to the informed voter, since a truely informed voter will cast their vote based on the issues, the canidates and their beliefs, not the opinion of others, but I also see no reason why these polls should be banned. I have no sympathy for those voters who don't vote because they think it won't matter, and I see no reason to ban these polls just to make their votes seem more meaningful.
